Posted December 8th, 2009 06:45 PM IP What a better time to discuss season tickets and those of us that spend a sh*tload of money to watch our team. I renewed mine for the sum of about $2,500. Six tickets in the front row of section 149. I've always thought Pavilion section seats are always a great deal at $14-15 a game.
I already know of one DTC member that isn't renewing, but instead saving their dough in 2010. Rings, you still in?
PS - I hear Tigerfest tickets go on sale Friday at 10 AM. I'll be online for those. Anyone else going to that? Who's on first? Yes, the butcher's name is Who.

Posted December 8th, 2009 08:45 PM IP I just received my package too. We moved from four tickets upstairs in '08 to two infield reserved last year.
We're still discussing it and haven't decided what we're going to do.
I love our seats, but quite honestly, we just aren't able to use enough of them...we get too many unused tickets every year. Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

I would hate to see you lose them. I'd be happy to try and sell as many as possible for you, no commission. I've got a bunch of friends that are always looking for tickets. It might be premature since we're in the offseason, but its something to think about. Who's on first? Yes, the butcher's name is Who.

Posted December 8th, 2009 09:57 PM IP I don't know. Beauty of ours is work pays for them. But last year not many people went, it was mostly me. What started as a perk to spread around work has turned into "my" tickets. I'm the one going (not that I mind) and no one else seems interested. We'll see. If work lets them go, I'm not sure I can afford them, might roll to a flex pack until the year after.
But, I really want to keep them, cost is good for 27 games where we sit and there shouldn't be an increase this year. I don't want to give them up because of what they are doing, even if it stings to know it's definitely a rebuilding year. I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Posted December 9th, 2009 10:25 AM IP Yeah, as I said, we buy them for our firm and give them to clients, but its a 2-2.5 hour drive from here and many times we get stuck with no one that wants to use them.
One of the reasons for the ticket exchange on here, honestly, was so I didnt' have to "eat" so many of them. We probably sat on at least 6-7 pair last year, from the 27 game package...but it was the drive, more than any animosity towards the Tigers.
We were thinking about getting Whitecaps tickets this year instead, but still haven't decided. Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

I always thought it was interesting that you would even buy season tix when you're so far away, but I guess if you give them to clients. Still, I'd go with Whitecaps instead. Cheaper and more likely your clients can use them. "I don't believe in superstitions. I think they're bad luck." - Andy Van Slyke

Well, we obviously enjoy a few of them ourselves...and most of our clients are teachers, who have the summer off and do appreciate them...but too many still fail to find users.
The 'Caps would probably be easier for many people to use, but "Opening Day" at 5/3 doesn't quite have the same sizzle to it as Comerica Park... Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

So what - buy opening day tickets. Why bother with season tickets just because you also get opening day. I would rather just buy tickets as I need them. But hey, that's just me. "I don't believe in superstitions. I think they're bad luck." - Andy Van Slyke

Posted December 9th, 2009 04:02 PM IP I hear you...and that's an option...but I can pay $400 for a pair of OD tix, plus cheaper seats for the other 10-12 games we attend (call it $300?)...or a deductable $1400 for 54 tickets, of which we use 12-20 ourselves, some of which go to clients, a few are sold and a few we eat.
I guess the question is whether the additional & deductable $700 is worth it for the difference... Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

Posted December 9th, 2009 04:17 PM IP Actually, I should edit the above as I think through this.
We sell probably 6-10 pair, usually the Stankees and BoSox among them, which brings in about $400-500 tax free...so its really about a $200-300 question...
With the season package, it is more convenient, prettier tickets (which are nice souvineers for some people, our exchange student included, who made it with me to two games), and - >ahem< - post-season priority... Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

This will be the hook for me if work drops 'em and I pick 'em up. Even if they are unlikely to make it next year, if you leave and come back you are a new holder again and new holders didn't get the same priority the year before last. If you get 'em when it looks like a WS team, the priority won't be there unfortunately.
Note: Wouldn't be new if I picked 'em up because I'd just pay for 'em anyway, but doesn't matter because I don't think we're setting up for next year. Down the road though, this could be one helluva team. I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Don't worry; I just alerted the IRS on your behalf so that you can adjust that deduction. "I don't believe in superstitions. I think they're bad luck." - Andy Van Slyke

LOL! Oh, I'll be audited one of these days - I'm self-employed and file 4 Schedule C's...but I don't think they're going to concern themselves with a few ticket sales... Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

I don't know - I used to defend IRS audits when I was in law school as part of our tax clinic and damn those ****ers are picky (once the audit has commenced). Of course a lot of our clients had fraud on their returns too...

I'll avoid the FRAUD part...but, honestly, with so much going on...one cannot avoid situations where they can find "something" if they want to. The entire system stinks, actually. B@stard! Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

Posted December 11th, 2009 03:50 PM IP We got our renewal package in the mail today. Nice to see they didn't raise prices and even added a couple of sections of cheaper seating (I think they called it baseline seating or something, around the foul poles in the lower deck and around third in the uppers.) I swear the total is cheaper than last year (and we keep it pretty cheap with Upper Reserved seating), but it's the same per game cost, so I must just be going crazy.
I'm still not sure, but I might work out a deal (considering the guy who runs the show is my dad) to pay for half of them if he doesn't want to renew it for the company again. That was we can give away 13 pairs, I'll keep 13 and Opening Day and post-season rights for the future. I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Posted December 12th, 2009 09:15 AM IP What's TigerFest like? I've never been, but the tours of the clubhouse sound wicked. Would they do that on a normal off day during the season as well? What are lineups like and are the autographs right on the field? Damn, that's gotta be cold if it's the case. I might have to check it out this year. Do they sell out or just unlimited "seating?" I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Its a pretty fun event and it will be cold. So if you go (tickets are probably already sold out) dress warm. But they have autograph tents setup and they rotate the players so you never really know who you're going to get. You get your picture taken with trophies, Paws and I think you can pick out your season ticket seats that day, as well. Its a lot of fun and luckily there's beer! Who's on first? That wouldn't surprise me...in the short term, fans are shocked and disappointed with the collapse last year and the trade of CG.
If they start winning in the spring, however, all will be forgiven. Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

Posted December 14th, 2009 01:12 PM IP I haven't got them yet (may be sold out now anyway), just realized it's the same day as a concert we're going to. But yeah, the attendance figures I'm sure will be fluctuating depending on their play; especially with the trading of Granderson (and letting Polly go.) They won't start very good, and it sounds like they know it. I understand that, and as much as bandwagon fan drives most nuts, I'd rather have them than not. Sure was a difference in going to a game in '03 than '06 and even '07.
Give JV and RP fist bumps for me CC! I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Posted December 14th, 2009 04:40 PM IP Tigerfest tickets used to be $20, plus all the handling fees. They're $5 cheaper this year and you're guaranteed to meet a couple of players and get their autograph. For a lot of folks, this is the only time they would get to do something like that. I'm surprised it took 4 days to sell out. It used to be about 4 minutes. Who's on first? Yes, the butcher's name is Who.

Definitely. Even the perennially great Wings haven't been selling out for a long time now. Sure, it's more expensive to go to a hockey game (well it can be, they do have 9 dollar tickets), but seriously the economy is a certain barrier to people right now. Combine that with what looks to be an off year, and you're going to get less sellouts and tickets not selling as quickly. I'm sure if they blast into August with a chance we'll see more and more come out, but the economy definitely factors in as well. I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.
