How many have been to a game in Toledo? Me and some buddies are thinking of doing a small road trip this year down to Toledo and then over to Cleveland. Just wondering what a Mud Hens game is like? I'm pretty excited to head down there, so hopefully it works out for us.

If we end up there, any particular things we should make sure to do while were there? Baseball wise that is, I'm sure there ain't much else going on.

I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Its a nice park and the downtown area around it is making an effort to improve, however, there isn't much going on.
We used to do that same trip regularly before boycotting the city a couple years ago under Mayor Finkbeiner. Now Mike Bell is in office, so we're heading back this summer too!

Cleveland is fun, though...especially down in the area by the ball park or over in the market district near Great Lakes Brewing!

I've been making seasonal trips to Cleveland for the Tigers series for a couple years now. Rings, that brewery can get me into trouble. But its a blast. I've been meaning to get to Toledo to watch a game now that they've got an updated facility. I went to a few games when they were at their old ballpark.

Ha...the old racetrack "ballpark" was hilarious.

Yeah, its worth the stop, but try to find a day game to stop "on the way" to or from CLE. That was our standard M.O.

Thanks. I figured not much would be going on in Toledo other than the Mud Hens, makes sense. Not sure how we plan to do it, but probably not until August. Hope it works out, we'll keep that Brewery in mind too as we might see a Saturday and Sunday game in C-Town.

If you like porters, try the Edmund Fitzgerald. Yum!

EF is one of the great porters out there! Their Dortmunder Gold is also very good. Aww, heck...pretty much all their beers are decent, but those two are exceptional.

I agree. They ripped off my idea with their Blackout Stout. Damnit.

Baseball road trips and beer... perfect combination. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try one... and then the other.

As an update, looks like we're going in August to see Toledo and Scranton (Stanks) on a Friday night and then over to C-Town to see the M's on Saturday night.

I'm pretty excited to see both actually, haven't been to Fifth Third or Jacob's Field.

I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Have a great trip! Get down to the Jake early (or whatever its called now), as there's a bunch of cool bars & restaurants around the park.

Thanks. We will be sure to head down early, I'm a pretty big stickler when it comes to showing up early on baseball roadies. Check in early Saturday morning (if we don't just make the drive that night) and we're staying right downtown, so we'll be right there.

Well, the trip pretty much fell apart which sucks, but a perfect storm of unfortunate events cut Cleveland out of the picture. We did go to Toledo last night for the Hens game and have to say we'll be heading down there a bit more often. A really nice park, some great ballpark food (Philly Cheesesteak was awesome) and the atmosphere gets pretty good when the Hens actually get something going.

Saw Oliver pitch, looked good outside some control troubles after an error by Dgulach, Schlereth looked solid but the hitters couldn't get a thing going. Was like seeing the Tigers, the Stanks pitcher had a perfect game into the fifth. Still had the tying run on second in the ninth though.

Me and some buddies are headed back to Toledo this summer for two games in June. Should be a good time hitting up the Friday/Saturday of a weekend series.

Absolutely awesome weekend (even if the Hens played poorly on Saturday.) Two great days at Fifth Third with some post game brews at Fricker's and five rows off the field at third base. I love the park, it's a great field, it has great food, a great atmosphere, great fans and you're so close to the action. Plus it's dirt cheap.

We took up the weekend as Fu-Te Ni's fan club. The first night he came out to protect the catcher/pitcher in the bullpen and when he was leaving we all chanted his name. He turned to us with the biggest smile, looked genuinely happy that anyone was there to see him. He pitched well the second night too when he came in. Thank goodness because Villareal sucked.

Worth got a kick out of me yelling out: "Hey Danny, you're still way better than Inge." He didn't look over but only because he was laughing.

I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Heading back to Toledo this year on June 21 and 22, hitting Comerica on Sunday on the way home. Pretty pumped, Toledo is always a great time. Some golf, some baseball, far too much foor and lots of beer.
