Posted April 5th, 2012 01:27 PM IP 0-0 in the second, with Ortiz on second after a lead-off double. Boesch grounded into a DP in the first. Grr.

Posted April 5th, 2012 02:47 PM IP Our vaunted offense just stranded two more guys, who got to first and second with nobody out. Still scoreless after five. I'm going off-line now; let's get something going!

Posted April 5th, 2012 04:26 PM IP I hope Valverde's day isn't a harbinger of the season. Good win though and we are on our way....!!! Tiger fan for 50 years!

Posted April 5th, 2012 04:55 PM IP JV was impressive: 8 innings, 105 pitches, 66 for strikes. Kudos also to Ajax, who had three hits on the day, including the game-winner. The Potato was fried, but I will take the walk-off.

Posted April 6th, 2012 01:16 AM IP I said to my friend when Valverde came in that despite saving 51 in a row I still didn't trust the guy. Just glad they won! [img=http://files.sharenator.com/kermit_weed_gif_Kermit_the_Frog-s320x240-93065-580.gif[/img]

Posted April 6th, 2012 09:04 AM IP Sucks we blew JV's great start. Potato gave up more hits in the ninth than JV did all game. Jeezus.
Either way, good to get the win and made the bottom of the ninth rather exciting for the fans. Nice to see Hackson get a big hit to win it this early. I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.

Posted April 6th, 2012 09:09 AM IP What a beautiful day at the ballpark...weather was great, and if you discount the number of over-served idiots, it was one of the more enjoyable ODs in some time.
It was good to see Cornejo Crunch and bride...sweet jersey, dude!
JV was just plain dealin'...fantastic to see him dialed in early.
Damn-near caught a foul ball - had my hands on it even - but the guy in front of me snagged it out of the air just as it reached me. Bummer. As a consolation prize, I did manage to snag a DVD copy of JV's no-hitter versus the Jays last year...woot-woot!
Miggy looked gun shy on his bad hopper. It's a point backed up in his comments to Beck:
http://beck.mlblogs.com/2012/04/05/...d-with-my-eyes/
Unfortunately, that E (inexplicably scored a "hit" initially, before the official scorer realized that Brandon Inge was no longer playing third base) probably cost JV a shot at the complete game. It took him nearly a dozen more pitches to get out of that inning after Cabby botched what would've been the third out.
Fielder did a very nice job on two scoops at 1B from Jhonny. I've been concerned about his ability to save throws, but he did a nice job today. Of course, JP normally does not make bad throws...
Boesch hit the ball hard nearly every time, but nothing to show for it.
I have no problem with Valverde coming in for the 9th. It was the right call. (Doc Halliday was removed after 8 too and fewer than 100 pitches...JV was at 104, as I recall). That said, Valverde's luck had to run out after several Houdini acts last season. He's averaged nearly 6 blown saves per season i in his career and was just plain lucky on many occasions last season.
He was beat on hits, which is still way better than Todd Jones coming out and walking the leadoff guy. We still won, and that's the most important thing. That said, blown leads on OD are the reason he shouldn't be dancing around like a 6 year old the rest of the time. Act like a pro, dude. The dancing crap is childish and an insult to the other team.
As for the off-the-field stuff, I gotta say that Rogo is right about much of this. I have a pretty good routine and avoid the idiots as much as possible, but having attending OD a dozen times, I gotta admit this stuff happens every year:

Now, I'm just pissed today is an off-day, dang it... Eliminating that Yankee odor since 2006!

Posted April 6th, 2012 02:37 PM IP I don't mind the Valverde call at all, they were bitching on 97.1 forever about it. Just sucks that JV lost the win there after pitching so well. I hope we have diplomatic relations with the country that ball lands in.
