Can this be done? (without having do download stuff to do it)

If so, how?

I want to password protect certain folders in my usb stick or even protect the usb itself.

I've tried google for an answer but keep getting suggestions to download some crypt thingy software which I dont want to do because a) I don't trust it especially when I ain't very knowledgeable with ICT stuff and b) I don't really know how to or understand the jargon.

Why is it so difficult when it's so easy to password protect excel spreadsheets and word documents ?!

Because the password protect on excel/word documents is generally easy to break.

A simple way would be to put them in a zip utility, the security should be about as good as word/excel. e.g. http://download.cnet.com/7-Zip/3000...4-10045185.html

Alternatively go for one of the encryption utilities. Shouldn't be that tough to configure/use.

Here's another way:

You can see it, but not from here!

Thanks.

I don't understand the first link as it's a load of jargon.

The second link was easy but it doesn't work all the time, i.e when I click on the locker.bat thing when exiting and I say yes to locking the folder, the folder is still there. It only works half the time.

What precisely does that mean?

Couple of years ago OH did something and now I don't get the option of a zip folder when I right click. All the symbols are now 3 books stacked up with a belt around it.

When I click on the books, another message tells me that winrar is not free and it'll be removed in 40 days unless I purchase it. So now I can't create a zip folder.

download the file from the link
Run the program
select to create new zip/archive
when creating new zip/archive set the security so that you have to enter a password to extract/view the zip/archive

On second thoughts download the file, run the installer and I'll instruct you from there

You can see it, but not from here!
