What's your favourite cake and do you have any tried and tested recipes?

My recipe for cakes is this which I was given by my mother, I had originally used recipes from cookery books and the bbc website but they did not turn out as well as the ones using this recipe.

Usually to make a dozen cup-cakes.

8oz of Caster Sugar
8oz of butter
8oz of self-raising flour
4 eggs
Sultanas/Raisins/Cherries etc

Cook for 20 minutes approx.
