Are they really the enemy? Has anyone ever followed a no/low carb diet?

It all depends on what you want to do.

Removing any food group completely from your diet isnt a great idea though. I tend to eat a low carb diet, dont eat pasta or rice for example unless I've got a race coming up. most of the carbs i get will be from porrige and now and again through brown bread. Its okay to eat them, i just think its best not to eat them with every meal. My trainer says "eat like a caveman" i.e only eat food that cavemen used to eat, meat, nuts, fruit and veg and you'll be fine. i pointed out that cavemen only used to live till they got to about 20 though! who knows!

Haha, good point. That's what I tend to do just try and avoid them where I can although I wouldn't rule them out altogether.
A girl here though says that even in small amounts they can bloat you and affect the way your body absorbs fat/ calories etc.

I try to eat low-carb, and avoid wheat as I have a slight intolerance.

I have PCOS, which means I'm more likely to suffer from insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes. Eating a low-carb diet helps to reduce this. My mother has type 2 diabetes and manages it through a low-carb diet. She doesn't need any medication and is back in the 'normal' range.

Some people get bloating, some people don't. Wheat doesn't agree with me but rice and potatoes are ok.
I think the point about fat/calories is that your body doesn't differentiate between carbohydrates - whether you eat a slice of white bread or a teaspoon of sugar, it's all the same. And if you don't burn it off, it can lead to weight gain.

But it's different for everyone.

Whatever fortune brings, don't be afraid of doing things

I misread this and thought you were talking about crabs!

I was going to move the thread to the health forum

I've done a low-carb and a no-carb diet in the past and they are both effective. I've been eating more carbs than ever recently, though. I've given up on being slim.

You can see it, but not from here!

I threw my scales in the bin last night. I no longer care what I weigh as long as my clothes fit.

I'm sure some here wouldn't mind if they were a bit small

I never weigh, I have no idea how heavy I am. As long as you feel happy in how you look thats all that matters.
