I want to take my kids to London this Christmas, just for the day. What are the best things to do?

eg decorations, shop windows etc

I registered for a Harrods reward card today so we can get a free visit to Santa, I just need to sort which day we will travel so I can book it.

I am just not sure what else to do.

I enjoy a glass of red wine each night for its health benefits. The other glasses are for my exceptionally witty comebacks, sarcasm, and flawless dance moves.

It will be pretty crowded around that time ...

You could try http://www.hamleys.com

There should be lights in Oxford St and Regent St, but obviously it will need to be dark to appreciate them.

Check to see if Selfridges have a Santa. I think that's nearby.

You're welcome. I'm sure they'd love to visit the largest toy shop in the world - all seven floors of it!!

I hope you're taking some spending money ... !

There must be some London people on here who know London far better than I!

N's been to both of these with her nan at christmas before. I don't know if it'll be a bit too childish for your eldest but N has always enjoyed it.

Hamleys is a great place to go but when N's been there (we couldn't get tickets one year) we set a limit and say she can have £xx.xx and then let her roam the shop till she spots something she would like. We were there most of the day!!

Also - Hyde park does a thing called Winter Wonderland http://www.hydeparkwinterwonderland.com/

a great day out. lots to do but be careful though - you can spend a lot of money if you're not watching your pennies.
