Posted 1st February 2010 11:08 IP Since January 1st I've been dieting right. Eating mega healthy foods and working out five days a week. I got weighed again yesterday and I STILL haven't lost a pound. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong or why I'm not losing?!

Posted 1st February 2010 11:13 IP sometimes it can be more about portion sizes/times of day that you eat i think.
plus - it's only been one month - if you're losing weight in a healthy way - i don't think that it all falls off straight away?
Also - you can gain/lose 2.2lb a day due to changes in your body - are you weighing yourself at the same time?
Also - have you considered that most women gain weight around the time of their period? might be that your due and have lost weight but the scales haven' changed cos of this... You put the moo in cow.

Posted 1st February 2010 11:17 IP Yeah I always weigh myself first thing on a morning. Period has just passed so any excess water retention should have gone by now. It's just really annoying when you're being so good as well as exercising and not getting any results.

Posted 1st February 2010 11:26 IP i thought u said you were wearing a skirt that didn't fit you a few weeks ago but it was ok now?
OH has said before muscle weighs more than fat (so did garfield though so make of that what you will) but if you're doing heavy training - maybe thats what it could be?
are your clothes becoming a loose fit?

I was going to make the same point. What kind of exercise are you doing, July? When I was going to the gym 3 times/week I was putting on weight, even though I was trimmer. I lost weight when I stopped
That and perhaps take a dump before getting on the scales next time You can see it, but not from here!

Take a dump you say? Duly noted.

Posted 1st February 2010 13:14 IP If you're converting fat to muscle and getting into smaller clothes, I wouldn't be worried. I've heard stories of people losing 4" off their waist without losing a gram. A toned body can look very attractive on a woman but I don't like the over-muscled body builders.

Posted 1st February 2010 23:16 IP Hey July
I wouldn't worry about no weight loss if your shape is changing. I think it's better to go by how your clothes fit anyway. If you are going to a gym they may be able to offer you a body-fat test which might be more useful to you than just weighing yourself. Whatever fortune brings, don't be afraid of doing things

Posted 3rd February 2010 10:13 IP As everyone has said, I wouldn't worry too much about weight if your overall shape is changing. Well done for what you have achieved so far. I feel it is better to achieve a toned body than a thin one

Posted 8th February 2010 22:55 IP I had lost a bit of weight but I think I've put it all back on the amount of food I've eaten in the last week!
I'm going to start over after this week. Whatever fortune brings, don't be afraid of doing things

Sort of.
I do a reduced-carb style plan as that's what works best for me. I do cardio at the gym and yoga at home. I don't do weights.
Here's a couple of example days:
Brekkie - scrambled eggs on slice rye toast
Lunch - bowl of soup, couple of plain oatcakes, soya yoghurt
snack - small handful nuts/other protein
Tea - roast or steamed veg w/piece of grilled fish or meat
about 20mins yoga.
Brekkie - oat cereal w/plain yoghurt
Lunch - as before
snack - banana
Tea - rice noodles w/steamed or stirfried veg and meat/fish.
Gym - 5mins on bike to warm up, 10mins on crosstrainer, 20mins on treadmill, 5mins warm down, stretching. Burns roughly 320 cals
I have fewer carbs on the days I don't go to the gym, and I try to make sure I don't have too many highly processed carbs too.
I've not been so good at sticking to it the last couple of weeks and can feel the weight's gone back on already, mostly because I've been eating FAR too much, and mostly carbs. Carbs are not my friend. Whatever fortune brings, don't be afraid of doing things

My clothes are quite loose now and I can get into ones i couldn't last year. Doesn't alter the fact I'm overweight, though.

Posted 10th February 2010 21:30 IP Well despite running 750 miles last year, I have put on weight, and it is showing a bit.
Not planning to diet, but trying to cut out meat during the week and up my veg intake

Don't think so, more likely beer, lol.
Must admit, when I first got into running, some friends asked me if I was ill, as I got quite thin

You'd be better off cutting out beer rather than meat if you want to lose a bit of weight.
I think that beer (when processed by the body) is basically sugar so cutting down on it will help, or switch to light beers.

Hi Mrs M,
Yes,you are right about the beer.
I must admit I like a beer or two, but I do try to limit it.
Problem is, after a week of night, like this week, I'm normally gagging for a pint by Saturday, lol.
The thing with the meat issue is that by cutting down, I'm increasing my veg intake, which is good for health in general.

As of this week, I am back on my diet!
So from now until Easter I'll be trying really hard to eat healthily and exericse consistently!
I have eaten approx my entire bodyweight in unhealthy food in the last week and it's beginning to show on the scales.
So I've got seven weeks till Easter and I want to have lost 7-10lbs.
Today's menu is:
scrambled egg on rye toast; soup with oatcakes and a soya yoghurt; fishcakes or cold chicken with salad.
I'm also going to try taking a supplement which contains CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) which is supposed to help in reducing bodyfat and maintaining muscle.
Whatever fortune brings, don't be afraid of doing things
