Posted April 22nd, 2012 10:08 PM IP The NBA is not the only league to do this, but WHY do division champions AUTOMATICALLY get a top seed and home court over a NON-division champ with a better record?
Isn't the fact that they HAVE a playoff spot an award in itself?
Why not give them an automatic spot, but align the seedings based upon the actual RECORDS?

Why does Indiana (2nd in the Central) have a higher seed than Boston (1st in the Atlantic)?
Division winners are guaranteed a top 4 seed, but not necessarily the top 3. As proof above.

The only teams that matter in the east are Chicago & Miami, maybe Boston.

....but I've been a Hawks fan too long, and.....know....better. Sigh.
