The Tigers are still the best team in the Central but unfortunately for them they are who I thought they were. they have Verlander, Cabrera, Fielder and then ehhh. no starting pitching beyond Verlander..I still want to see more of Fister before I comsider him anything special. no RF, no LF, no 2B, no SS, no DH. I do like Avila and Austin Jackson has certainly come around but they have a lot of holes. a nice nucleus to build on but not in the same league as the Rangers, Rays, Yankees, IMO I think we found Kyrie Irving

this is the nature of trades....there is always a risk in taking on prospects because you just never know if they will turn out or not. now the Indians didn't really get back any top prospects in the Lee deal but when you look at the Sabathia deal there wasn't anyone who was disappointed that the Indians got Matt LaPorta back. that was the guy in the Brewers organization that everyone wanted and that every scout rated as the top guy . hopefully he is a late bloomer and still turns into a decent major league player but if not it is hard to blame the Indians for targeting him
people complained and hated the Victor deal at the time but of all the recent trades Masterson may be the best player they got back. Santana for Casey Blake was a steal. Carrasco looked to have some promise but now we have to see what happens when he recovers from his injury.
like I have said before Umbaldo wasn't they guy I would have targeted but I was happy the Indians were aggressively trying to improve the team. really other then 2000, I think that was they year, where they went out and got Wickman, Bere, Woodard, Segui, and Cordero last season was the 1st time they were really all that agressive at the deadline. the rest of the guys they went out to get were againing Lofton, Sietzer, Bains or Mark Carreon, John Smiley, Jeff Juden, Fukudome, Vizciano, Hill, Whiten. probably the best guy they ever got at the deadline, Jeff Kent, they never even played.
really to me the problem isn't the trades they make..look at their roster over the last few years most of the best players came from trades
Lee
Sizemore
Phillips
Hafner
Santana
Choo
Cabrera
Masterson
Perez
to me their biggest problem is the inabaility to draft and develope guys into good major league players. hopefully guys like Kipnis and Chisenhall change that trend but it will be tough for a team with limited resources to succeed if they always miss on their draft picks
|
nope, we cant make good trades.. we didnt receive 10 albert pujols's and a-rod's in return so they were all bad trades

Posted May 14th, 2012 08:19 PM IP Good lord look at the Twins lineup.
There really is no reason to give up more than three runs tops on any given day against them. That is not a good offense.
Now after that has been said, Minny will probably beat the Indians by six runs tonight. Klonk Bars (if that if still my name), you dope! Give a man a fish, he eats for a night. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.

Posted May 14th, 2012 10:15 PM IP Chicago has come storming back to take a 7-5 lead over Detroit.
The Tigers threw some Putkonen guy in the 6th and he got drilled.
Pestano should make the Twins looks terrible and help secure the win. Should being the word of emphasis. Hopefully it goes as planned. Give a man a fish, he eats for a night. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.

Posted May 14th, 2012 11:00 PM IP Whew. Good job to come back and get the win.
It shouldn't have got to that point, but they did what they needed to and found a way to come back and beat a not very good team.'
I'll defend my approval for Acta every day, but I have no idea what he was doing tonight. The 8th inning was a disaster. And while it ended up working, pinch running for Kotchman was over-managing to a tee. Target Field's outfield plays big. Kotch would have been able to score on more balls hit there than not.
Doesn't matter in the big picture though. Got the W. Give a man a fish, he eats for a night. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.

Posted May 14th, 2012 11:17 PM IP i liked the pinchrunning for Kotchman because it got Santana out from behind the plate where he had been taking a beating the previous inning
other than that, nice W, keeps a 3-game skid from turning into a possible 5-game skid or worse WARNING: LITHIUM NO LONGER AVAILABLE ON CREDIT

Posted May 15th, 2012 12:48 AM IP I didn't like him pulling Pestano for Hagadone, especially in that situation.
Hagadone is going to be a beast, but Pestano is your 8th inning guy. Why yank him in the middle of the inning?
Made no sense.

Posted May 15th, 2012 09:36 AM IP Yeah Manny has been a little off this season I think. At least compared to last year where I thought he did an excellent job keeping a roster basically half assembled of guys who started the season in Columbus in contention up until September.
He is going Eric Wedge on us. Way too much by the book up to this point. And Manny has said time and time again that he manages based on feel, instinct, and how a player is currently performing. Seems to have disappeared through the first month in 2012. Give a man a fish, he eats for a night. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.

If anyone has some free time, go back in the archives and look at some of the threads and posts late from the 07 season and the playoffs. Scarlet and Torch had classic commentary in the game two thread of the ALCS at Fenway while Slash and I were up in Cleveland watching from the big screen. Was loling the entire time reading it.

Also, thanks to Atlanta for still paying Lowe 10 million. LOL
And nice to see the Tribe go back-to-back-to-back.

My favorite thread, ever. Without even looking it up I remember "now batting for Boston Ramirez,Ortiz,Ramirez". Also I remember that was my trot Nixon game?

Posted May 16th, 2012 10:44 AM IP Haha that was indeed the Ramirez Ortiz, Ramirez, Big Papi thread.
There were Nixon references as well.
After Gutierrez hit the go ahead homer (I'm assuming), one of you two said, "Karim Garcia is Gutierrez' batting coach."
^I damn near lost it when I read that again yesterday. It's just a legendary thread all in all. Give a man a fish, he eats for a night. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.
