Posted September 28th, 2011 02:43 PM IP Well...after today the Indians will pack up shop and head home. We had a lot of bright spots and I think they out weighed the negative. We have a young nucleus that excelled this year, next year I would imagine they will slump...lets hope not.
If Ron Mexico could hook us up with the list of FA's available this off-season that would be awesome. I am interested in his thoughts for the team.
The Indians showed signs of wanting to win with some of their deadline moves this year, I am wondering if that will carry over?
I would love to see us go all out for guys like Prince Fielder and Jose Reyes....Maybe add another arm and and continue building up the bullpen.
I am also interested in knowing what will happen with Sizemore...

Posted October 31st, 2011 01:14 PM IP The Atlanta Braves have traded Derek Lowe to the Cleveland Indians, sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
Lowe was traded for left-handed pitcher Chris Jones, a source familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The teams are expected to announce the trade later Monday, the source said.
The Braves are eating all but $5 million of the $15 million remaining on the last year of Lowe's contract, sources told Olney.
Lowe went 9-17 with a 5.05 ERA in 34 appearances for the Braves in 2011. The 15-year veteran right-hander has a career record of 166-146 with a 3.94 ERA.

Why? Why Cleveland? This is the crap I don't get. We pick up the option on an awful pitcher and then we trade for another one in Derek Lowe.
I am convinced this team will NEVER win!

Saw this from another site if it makes you feel better:
It's easy to focus on Lowe's ERA of 5.05 last season, but Lowe brings some very important qualities to the Indians pitching staff. Carlos Carrasco is already gone to Tommy John surgery, which means Justin Masterson, Fausto Carmona and Josh Tomlin are the only pitchers with more than 70 innings pitched for the Indians last season. Carmona's ERA was worse than Lowe and Tomlin is still young. Simply put, the Indians need a veteran innings eater and Lowe is a great addition for the price.
Lowe led the NL in games started last season and he's been a proven workhorse for the last decade. Just last year, his ERA was a full point lower so there's no reason to think he can't bounce back a bit. He's not going to be the pitcher who had a 2.58 ERA for Boston a decade before, but he's definitely a strong ground ball pitcher who can help anchor the rotation and stop the bleeding of the unpredictability of young arms who tax easily or the injuries to guys like Carrasco. "If you're my enemy and you're by the side of the road with a flat tire, and it's 20 below zero, I'm going to stop and throw a gallon of water on you and keep going."

Wish we'd have cut fausto though.

Posted October 31st, 2011 01:30 PM IP I can't completely blame them for retaining Fausto and I know why they did it, but I think they are hoping against hope.
They are unwilling to give up on that wreck, hoping to uncover that magical 19-8 season form from 2007 that every once in a while shows up still. I don't think it will ever happen again, but I begrudgingly understand why a small market team won't give up on him. Posted October 31st, 2011 02:21 PM IP Ok, I have thought over this Lowe trade after reading up on some things.
Gave up a low level prospect and gives us a possible low risk-high reward opportunity.
Derek Lowe can eat innings which can be good for our pen, could end up being a decent 5th starter.
Makes me believe with the excellent depth at pitching in our minors system the Indians are not done!

Aramis Ramirez
Omar Infante
Ryan Dempster
and maybe a couple of those relief pitchers.

Posted November 1st, 2011 01:34 PM IP Tigers have already exercised a team option for Valverde.
Ramon Santiago will likely be re-signed, depending on what action DD takes in the 2B-3B free-agent market (still would probably be re-signed, being a capable backup at more than one position).
I thought that Wilson Betemit was doing well until his injury, but he seemed to fall out of favor with the front office.
Magglio is probably finished playing, might have some other role with the team--?
Brad Penny is available to whomever wants him! Barack Hussein Obama: living proof that anyone can become President of the United States.

I would think going into spring training these guys will be locked into their position.
C Santana
2B Kipnis
SS Cabrera
3B Chisenhall
RF Choo
CF Brantley
DH Hafner
I am interested to see what the Indians do in LF and 1B as I don't know that they have many internal options. could see a lot of Santana at 1B I guess I think we found Kyrie Irving

Posted November 2nd, 2011 04:13 AM IP There's no chance at all that Sizemore stays healthy. The Braves are picking up 10 million of Lowe's 15 Million $$$ salary so he is relatively cheap for a 5th starter. He's a very low risk and worst case scenario he is like a second pitching coach and mentor for some of the younger guys. Fausto will be the third starter and eat up innings like he did this year. He won't win a Cy Young but there are a lot worse options out there.
