Findlay 3-1 over Columbian. Findlay will be tough to beat when Orwick is on the mound.

Malabar, Is Mansfield Sr. actually better this year or did Shelby not play all that well? Not that expectations are sky-high for the Whippets but this is generally a double-digit win to open the season for them.

Prolly a little bit of both. Senior threw their "ace" J R Davis. He is a quality pitcher but their bats are still lacking. I don't know what the expectations are for the Whippets.

I heard umpire Jim Sellers had a heart attack during the South Central/Bucyrus game. Hopefully he's doing better and recovers completely. Had to be pretty scary for the players and fans during that game.
Yep, that's right.

Blodg - Was that Ross game a regular season game, or scrimmage? I read on Keith's site that it was a scrimmage.

Thanks for the info. It was reported elsewhere as a regular game but checked Keith's site and see that it was indeed a scrimmage. I will remove it from the results.

Willard over Oberlin 25-0 tonight. Not sure how many RBIs for Sam but he did have the 2 dingers. Flashes hit the ball up and down the order. Willard pitchers only gave up one hit in the 5 inning game.

Obviously Oberlin isn't very strong, or at least they weren't tonight. Hate to think what that says about Cleveland Glenville. Oberlin beat them in a doubleheader Saturday by a combined score of 32-1 for the 2 games. Oberlin had, according to MaxPreps, 24 walks, 2 HBPs and stole 48 bases.

wonder how many "passed" balls were including in those to be 48 steals?

Good question. It's a very hard number to believe. If Oberlin only batted in 4 innings in two 5 inning run rule game, that's 6 stolen bases an inning.

Stats in HS baseball/softball seem to vary so widely, it would be nice to have some sort of consistency. I wonder how much more it would cost to add an independent scorer for the games in addition to the umpires? Or at the very least, each team should have to post their stats online for better transparency, that shouldn't be all that hard nowadays with all the extra technology.

Whether they were steals, passed balls, wild pitches or catcher indifference, to do that 48 TIMES in two games that weren't close?

Shame on the Phoenix.

well you load the bases..throw the ball to the backstop.. 3 people move up one base...doesnt take long to add up if the pitcher does the ball 4, ball 8 ball 12 routine..

Sam had 2- 3 run homers, 2rbi double, sac fly and a 2 rbi single....11 rbi's is correct in the Flashes 25-0 win ... I had to break the news to Sam that back in 1977 I had a 12 rbi game..lol.. both Sam and my son quickly told me they didn't keep stats back then. I told them I have the score book..lol..both are whoppers ;-)

Why are you guys so surprised about the Norwalk - Perkins score? We know Norwalk has a strong team, Perkins normally has a good team but I think they may be young this year so we don't know how good they will be. In a scrimmage I am pretty sure TC beat them 5-1 and held Perkins to 1 run with the #4 or lower pitchers. I guess if Waldock pitched for Perkins and Norwalk scored 8 then maybe it is surprising as I have not seem him pitch but have read great things about him. From what I have seen and heard early in the season that result is about what I would expect. Norwalk is good.

They are not this season. I'm a little surprised by 8-0 based off how they've played Perkins in past years, but the Pirates are definitely not 'strong' as the season starts. Just one senior who plays and when Waldock doesn't pitch, good not great.

Also an FYI on Xavier Turner he was suspended two games and is scheduled to return today vs. Port Clinton.
