This would have been an unbearable loss for me or any other OSU fan who knows a die hard UC fan/alum.
Plus it's great to past the sweet 16

oh it's cool bro, there's a few posters on here who have hated on Smith Jr. and i just don't see it...i like his vision and i like his game, he just needs an opportunity imho
just wonder specifically what they don't like about the kid's game, more curiosity than anything

I would guess because he is not a "flashy" ballplayer.
Does his job, does not force shots. Just goes about his job and when the opportunity arises makes his presence known. Played a solid game both ways last night.
After the first few trips down the floor Craft took care of business and disrupted the Cincy offense and ended with 6 steals.

Posted March 23rd, 2012 08:10 AM IP I think Cinci adjusted to stop him is where Thomas went in the second half.
They also made a point at half time, I think, about how the Buckeyes weren't going to Thomas, he was getting to the ball--O-rebounds, being in the right place at the right time--and capitalizing on his opportunities.
Also, to clarify early in the thread that OSU is more disciplined---I didn't mean Cinci was out of control, I did mean that OSU simply is one of the most disciplined teams in the country. Only about 3-4 shots I'd call "bad" last night. You, me, and the proletariat make three, baby.

You all realize that this is ScarletFever's game. He called it last year...he has called for the Sweet 16 collapse again this year.... Now I just hope he's wrong. Cincy looked pretty intense the other night in the round of 32, so I can only hope tOSU shows up.
|
And 'show up' they did!
It appears Matta allowed his team to spend halftime texting girlfriends. They came out flat and unfocused, on the other hand Cincy was just the opposite.
Luckily the Buckeyes decided to get their heads back in the game.
Where is William Buford? He made several bonehead plays last night. He is overdue for a big game and Syracuse would be a nice time to see that happen.
At the start of the season did anyone expect to see the player DeShaun Thomas has become?
Although he is still lacking in consistant shooting accuracy, it's good to see Craft becoming much more aggressive offensively and taking that open shot that he would have elected to pass off earlier in the season. Still hold out hope he will eventually become a consistant and effective point producer.
Good minutes from the bench against the Bearcats.

Posted March 23rd, 2012 09:17 AM IP I have thought for awhile that the team will be without Thomas next year. That is a lot of scoring to replace in Buford, Sullinger, and Thomas

If those 3 do leave(well 1 will for sure obviously) and everything else stays the same(i.e. no transfers, etc.) I think Ohio State may take a step back next year but then be real good the year after. Yep, that's right.

how the crap was that not a foul on Jackson on that last break good thing for the put back lol wow

I stayed off here last night just because of calls like that. Jackson literally stopped Buford's dunk because he slapped the left wrist so hard, that Buford lost control of the almost dunked basketball. And CBS was showing it as a HIGHLIGHT just before a break... LOL! I was beside myself more than once at the non-calls and then the ticky-tack calls. I don't like to bitch about referees, because both teams have to play with the same refs, but I swear in the 2nd, it looked like the refs went into the half, got paid by the Cincy booster club, and came back out for the 2nd half. I know it's not true, because they did the same to the Cincy guys later in the second half as well, but still, I don't know how any of the kids out there could play with the inconsistency I saw. I am glad the Bucks won too, and I'm not a basketball guy, but I think even I could have been more consistent on the calls. Of course, I have the beauty of the DVR and slo-mo to get it right!!!

Posted March 23rd, 2012 06:38 PM IP One thing I have noticed about Smith, unlike others, is that if he misses a couple shots he backs off from shooting. Maybe good. Maybe bad.
He is still a solid all around player.

Mainly because he's really now just showed his potential. He's had great games sprinkled here and there and he was very consistent this year, but he's not displayed his offensive skill set quite like he has in the tourney. I imagine this was DeShaun Thomas in HS.
I think it's possible he may leave, but I think it's 60-40 he stays. I don't know why.

DeShaun Thomas is just beginning to emerge to the player we knew he was, he needs more PT, consequently I expect him in a Buckeye uniform next year...same goes for Sullinger.
Coach Cronin's post game comments harping on his team's 18 turnovers, while not giving the Buckeye defense the credit it deserves...not surprising. His players have shown an air of arrogance all season and think that comes from the coach.
Cinncinnati....see ya in another 50 years!
