Bellevue
1-4 vs teams above .500
4-1 vs teams that could not finish above .500

Fostoria
0-4 vs teams above .500
3-3 vs teams that could not finish above .500

Galion
3-0 vs teams above .500
7-0 vs teams that could not finish above .500

Norwalk
0-5 vs teams above .500
1-4 vs teams that could not finish above .500

Shelby
0-3 vs teams above .500
5-2 vs teams that could not finish above .500

Tiffin Columbian
0-2 vs teams above .500
7-1 vs teams that could not finish above .500

Upper Sandusky
0-4 vs teams above .500
2-4 vs teams that could not finish above .500

Willard
0-4 vs teams above .500
3-3 vs teams that could not finish above .500

Taking out Galion, the other 7 NOL teams combined to go (1-26) vs teams with a winning record.

The NOL can thank 1978-present day Norwalk level teams for their couple of wins this year.

Even worse is the fact that 7 NOL teams LOST to a 1978-present day level Norwalk team.

Not gonna lie, of all the "stats" I've seen posted by Vogel recently, these are the most telling.
"We must all just struggle onwards to the best of our ability with patient long-suffering endurance. To gain the necessary strength for these efforts, we have to turn inwards upon ourselves, and draw out of our profoundest resources the courage to carry on our day-to-day lives.

I made the hour and a half drive just to watch Upper and Norwalk play last Friday night, figuring that I would be able to at least catch one NOL game this year. As an old NOL guy, I am sad that Upper is leaving the league for the NCC and since I coach here in michigan, I only get a chance to attend the last game of the season, as we only play 9 weeks or regular season.

I have not been to an Upper game since TC/Upper in 2004, but I can tell you that I have forgotten how great a league game can be, even between two losing teams. I was impressed at the fans sitting in the stands. I was impressed at the speed of the game. I was impressed with the hitting. I was impressed period. Kudo's to both Norwalk and Upper in a hard fought game. If we had half of the talent that these two teams showed up with Friday night, our high school would be a perennial playoff team here in michigan and in our league.

Talk about two different worlds...

I'll say something that may seem shocking--having not lived in NOL country for 15 years or so, the NOL is but a mere blip on the screen of Ohio football. It's been now 25 years since an NOL team won a state title. No team has reached the championship game in that time. Two final four team in 25 years.

I find it interesting that the NOL is fine when a team makes regionals every five years but suddenly it sucks today. Perhaps, the NOL is just a mediocre football conference, in less-than mediocre part of the state for HS football. Some like to think that their school has this proud, proud tradition for excellence in football, but that opinion is not recognized beyond your respective counties, I'll assure you. People might respect Bellevue and Tiffin, for example, as being good teams year-in and year-out (esp TC) but let's not fool ourselves--no one outside of northcentral Ohio stays up nights worrying about NOL teams being a factor on the state level. That's just my two cents worth, and why I haven't gotten all up in arms about how the NOL is perceived this year.

That is hitting the nail on the head for the Northern Ohio League. I just hope it is not hitting the nail on the coffin. The statement from judgesmales is only shocking for those who cannot see beyond their own backyard.

Incorrect.

1996 and 2001 Bellevue squads made State Final Four. Other than that, point taken.

The ones that would come to mind;

Tiffin 1987
Bellevue 1987
Willard 1990
Bellevue 1993
Shelby 1998
Tiffin 2004

Of course, excluding the ones that won the Region in this span.

1972, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2009 World Champions! Will the Lakers Repeat? YES!

Since playoff expansion; # of NOL teams in the playoffs [playoff wins] and wins vs playoff teams OOC
1999: 3 [1] NA --Bellevue lost to Willard in playoffs
2000: 2 [1] at least 2, don't know complete schedules, Tiffin beat Fostoria, Willard beat Margaretta
2001: 3 [4] 1
2002: 3 [1] 1
2003: 3 [0] 3
2004: 3 [3] 2
2005: 1 [0] 0
2006: 1 [1] 1
2007: 2 [1] 3
2008: 3 [2] 2 Bellevue lost to Tiffin in the playoffs
2009: 1 [TBA] 0

The NOL has averaged about 3 playoff wins every 2 years since the latest expansion.

2004 Tiffin won 2 playoff games.
2001 Bellevue won 3 playoff games.

Average league with average results. Nothing more, nothing less.

But one question, who better, the '55 Rams or the '91 Flashes. Let's put this finally to bed.

Or wait, the '09 Genoa or the '96 Fostoria?

Who really cares?

Aaaaah- you all missed my point. The NOL may be average in Ohio, and something you all see and experience on a regular basis, but when you spend a great deal of time as I have in something less, you learn to appreciate what you don't have. I was giving kudoes to Ohio and NOL football as something to appreciate, because it may not always be there. I know that I was smiling my sweet *** off Friday night, win or lose, just to see a game. Please, if you all think it's that bad, contact me next season and you can watch any of several teams in the metro Detroit area implode on any given Friday night... It may not be St X, or Colerain, but appreciate what you DO have.

buckeye2b,

I did not miss your point. I think the NOL people definitely appreciate what they have with their Friday night football rites. The fans generally are great and love their schools. There are long-standing rivalries revived every season.

My take on judgesmales comment was that it did not reflect your post, it just happened to follow your post. I think the post was a general reflection about the mindset of NOL fans on this forum (and maybe in general) regarding their little corner of the Ohio high school football world. There is a general impression the NOL schools and fans think the league is among the best in Ohio and definitely better than other leagues in their geographic area. The post by judgesmales seemed to be addressing that issue - trying to put some perspective to the lack of greatness of the NOL.

You know...I didn't grow up watching NOL football..and when people tell me about the great tradition of the NOL and how it is a great football conference I just look at them funny...

And those funny looks probably were not noticed since they remained full of NOL delusions.

I grew up in the NOL area and always heard the same thing. The other schools were just simply not as good. I felt sorry for them with the short-sided vision.

And Vogel believes Genoa will beat the patriots... so guess what... I believe him too.

Why do people come on here and complain when facts are facts? This is no disrespect to Galion but the facts Vogel put up there are AMAZING and points out how BAD the league is. Why does that fact sit so badly with so many on here? As a fan of the league I can take it for what it is worth. This is by FAR the worst this league has been since I have been following the league and Vogel shows the numbers to prove it...

I, yes ME, have been on here time and time again showing how the SBC which is smaller than the NOL is a better football league than the NOL.

Yet every time I post those numbers I get bashed. I'm told I'm only posting those numbers to take down the NOL, b/c I have some dislike for the NOL.

It's the same old stuff every time. LOTS of people like to wear the Blinders. I throw out the facts and then they cry and whine, gifferoo and salty are the top 2 examples of this as of right now.

When the NOL is GREAT. I give the NOL it's props
When the SBC is GREAT. I give the SBC it's props

When the SBC blows. I tell it as it is - you blew this year SBC
When the NOL blows. I tell it as it is - you blew this year NOL
