It's funny....I hear complaints about travel all the time but as I look at forums on a these sites I see teams traveling several hours for a scrimmage. Bucyrus to Hamler isn't exactly a quick trip.

Bucyrus had to change their Huron scrimmage to an away, due to replacing visitors bleachers and paved areas being torn up. Light poles are also being replaced. Everything should be ready prior to first regular season home game.

While I do think how much travel factors into these decisions might be sometimes exaggerated, I don't think this is a fair statement. It's much different to travel for one scrimmage, where you send only players - no cheerleaders or band and far fewer fans - compared to an entire league schedule that includes everyone traveling.

Budman........not sure what direction you're coming in from but the football stadium sits right behind the High School. No matter what direction you come into town from just follow the Hospital signs as the HS sits directly across the street from it.

Wynford's home scrimmage with Seneca East begins at 5:00 pm. It will start on the practice field (behind the home stands of the main field). The teams are broke into three stations and really takes on the view of a practice against another team. After about an hour or so, the teams will go to the main field and run more of a traditional scrimmage with sets of 10, both varsity and JV.

During the regular sets of plays format, Wynford scored one TD (30+ yard) scamper by Soph., Cole Fortner. Seneca East never threatened to score. Wynford could have had another TD, but as the QB was rolling out (he had a wide out wide open down the side line), he was blown dead by the official as the defender approached. Both coaches wanted hands off each QB. Wynford looked quick and Seneca East seemed to struggle with it. I would say that Wynford was much more physical than the Tigers, which is a bit unusual for SE. In my opinion, they do not have the size on the line or even in their skilled positions as they have had in years past.

The Royals will certainly see solid talent and a very physical squad in Marion Pleasant on Saturday morning at Pleasant.

SE's quarterback had a strong arm, but he wasn't always accurate, and when he WAS, the receivers had trouble catching the ball.

Corey ran hard and played with his normal (expected) aggression. Didn't see a lot of him, but he did have touches. I think the key thing I saw was a beautiful cut back and no apparent issue with the repaired knee. He looks ready to go. I believe the Royals will have a lot of weapons both carrying the ball and catching.

Galion beat both the Freddies and Centerburg this week. Galion dominated Fredericktown in the 7-7/ linemen portion of the scrimmage. The freddies tightened things up in the 10 plays each way part, however Galion won maybe 2-1. Looked about the same against centerburg as well.

Sounds encouraging. Did they play any timed quarters in either scrimmage or was it all the scripted 10 play thing?

Mostly 10 plays back and forth. They did do some 1st and 10 from the 30 going in, maybe one series each.

Wynford had some eyes opened yesterday, in my opinion, which isn't all bad. It was a much more physical and challenging scrimmage yesterday with Pleasant compared to Tuesday with Seneca East.

The varsity worked sets of ten at one end of the field, while the JV and frosh did the same at they other end. I believe that in those multiple sets of 10, Pleasant outscored Wynford 3-2. I felt The Royals had a better day throwing the ball than running. Most of the running game was bottled up. Looked like defensively there were a couple of hiccups and missed assignments.

After the sets of 10, the varsity teams went down and distance for a few series. In that format, Pleasant scored twice and shut out Wynford. After that, both teams worked on PAT and field goal.

All in all, a good scrimmage for Wynford as they will travel to Patrick Henry this Friday for their preview then open with a very tough Liberty Benton squad, on the road, before they face Mohawk at home. Scrimmages like this one will go far in preparing the team for the likes of Bucyrus, Upper, Galion and Crawford during a stretch later this season.

I just watched the Galion vs Fredericktown film. The format was 10 plays each team starting at their own 30 yard line, then each team was given 2 possessions at the opponents 20 yard line. Galion scored 4 TDs to Fredericktown's 2 TDs. Galion also had a clear pick six giving them a 5th TD in a real game. Galion intercepted a 2nd pass in their own end zone during the down and distance portion of the scrimmage.

both teams were substituting a lot. The scrimmage format is just a small step above a 7 on 7 when evaluating a team. Neither team is allowed to unload on the QB and the QB's ability or inability to run is not a factor.. Both teams run a lot of random plays and I'm pretty sure Galion ran 4 different RBs.. Special teams should change the game a lot.

I'm going to watch Centerburg later but it was about identical to the Freddies game.. I think Centerburg was very weak at the line. Galion has a TON of work to do but the potential is there.
