Ignore Triple...he's a little slow. But since he demands the defensive numbers, here are the teams in order of defensive average from last year:

1. Hopewell Loudon - 43.8
2. Carey - 45.6
3. New Riegel - 48.1
4. SJCC - 50
5. Mohawk - 50.9
6. Calvert - 51.4
7. Seneca East - 52.4
8. Old Fort - 56.1
9. Lakota - 56.3
10. N. Baltimore - 56.7
11. Bettsville - 58.1
12. St. Wendy - 61.6

I'll leave it up to you guys to figure out which RETURNING players play defense. Good luck!

Well, that doesn't change much for me and my predictions I made last week:

1. New Riegel
2. Hopewell
3. Seneca East
4. Calvert
5. St Joe
6. Carey
7. Old Fort
8. Mohawk
9. Lakota
10. St Wendelin
11. Bettsville
12. North Baltimore

Thanks for those stats Swoosh, all I had from the MAL publicist guy was individual stuff. Again, the top 4 are in a league of their own in my mind. Then a middle 4, then a bottom 4 that will be bad. Then in 13th place, Triple Threat!

It's funny how someone has their own opinion, just like Arc has his opinion, but doesn't agree with him and the personal attacks start. Who's the child?

You guys are funny....games still more than a month away and guys are fighting already. With HL and Calvert already assured of being in football playoffs I wonder how that impacts some key early season games as both teams have several players on the football team. HL plays NR early in December, not sure who Calvert starts with in league play.

i dont see anything shocking here
3-6 i think could get jumbled up

If hopewell and calvert have any early MAL matchups, could hurt them down the road if they are missing any key pieces to their rosters.

So much changes from season to season that making predicitons on last years stats is pointless. Each school will have players that step up and fill a role. It's those players that will make the difference.

There is alot more discussed on this website than predictions so I would have to disagree. I won't fill up the site by posting the same response four times.

It's pretty quiet on the forums, any news on the MAL front?

Key transfers in or out?

Everyone started practice?

Anything?

Nothing major that I have heard....HL and Carey have football players in practice sooner than normal and Calverts will be there next week as they play Delphos this week. Heard something about SJCC losing a kid or two to Clyde and maybe one to golf out of state possibly? Scrimmages this weekend for most i would think.

I read that above somewhere, or on another post about St Joe losing a freshman to Clyde. Is Dudley the kid going out of state to play golf? WOW! That would be a huge loss, that is if he is playing.

Ok just heard a rumor about SE, I have no idea if this is true, maybe someone could fill me in a little more. I heard SE is not having a freshman team becasue of finance and the school doesnt want to bus kids to their games, I also head there was only a few kids who showed up to the preseason meeting for SE. I heard the Deihm kid was not there, and only 15 kids showed up 9-12. Can anyone confirm this or did these kids decide to play?

Wow....the part about the freshmen team is true as SE made a decision last spring to end all freshmen teams to save $30K so they do not have freshmen teams in anything this year for boys or girls...the freshmen compete for playing time on jv team...I would be surprised if only 15 boys 9-12 are playing hoops for them as they had good numbers on 8th grade team last year and had many kids back in grades 10-12...I would think it should be closer to 25 kids but since it is SE probably issues parents/kids have about the coach, right?? Their varsity team potentially could be pretty good this year with Schafer, Hahler, Deihm and others.

Diehm is playing.

SE had 12 kids show up for first practice, up to 14 now.

Yep, that's right.

Only 14 in the whole 9-12 program?? Why the low numbers for a divison 3 basketball school? This is the coach from Willard's 2nd year isn't it? They were inconsistent last year but had some good wins and actually showed some discipline and gave effort on D....I am not a SE person but I saw them twice and thought it was a much more well coached team than in years past. Wonder why kids do not want to be a part of the rpogram?

I can't answer all your questions, only going by what I know. And yes, this is Beddingfield's second year. My only guess to some of the things is that SE just isn't a basketball school.
Yep, that's right.

I agree and I am an SE person and I think Beddingfield is a good coach but when you consider the huge difference in coaching style's between the current and former head coach I think some of the boy's were shocked last year. What is surprising to me is some of the boys that did not go out are the kids I would have thought would have played no matter what, the future seems bleak...SE had 10 on a good 8th grade team 3 went out this year, the Sophomore class has 1 or 2 out the Junior class has 7 out and 3 Seniors which 1 did not play last year.

Yeah, 3 freshmen and 1-2 sophs does not bode well for the future. 8th grade team lost in MAL finals last year too?? Can't believe only 3 of those kids are still playing.

With no freshman program ... kids have ZERO time to adjust to the high school pace of play. Kids that were numbers 4 thru 10 on last years depth chart don't feel like they want to invest all the time in practice with very little chance to play at the JV level. A freshman program gives them the opportunity to play against kids their own age and develop skills needed for JV and Varsity. No frosh program eliminates a very important step in the success of a program.

Life is short ... I'm not

Bat21 makes a good point as some freshmen are not physically ready to play at JV level but many MAL teams do not have freshmen teams some years and the kids are forced to make a choice. Tough for SE coach to build a program with these numbers, he has to be disappointed. Basketball has never seemed to really be important at SE, that may be tough to overcome.
