Posted July 13th, 2010 03:40 PM IP I realize its early, but this is the place to do this I suppose. I moved from out of town over a year ago and got to watch quite a few teams around the Sandusky area. With the MAL league sort of nearby in proximity, lets take a look at each team.
What do the Warriors return from last year and where do we see them finishing? To Be The Man, You Must Beat The Man!

Posted July 14th, 2010 05:58 PM IP From the MAL stat sheet that was emailed to me this afternoon, they appear to have a few key players returning. This team may surprise if they play defense the way they did last year. The returns of Drew Trusty and Caleb Coil are big. Those two were key for them last year. Add in the shooting of Derek Book and there are 3 key players for the Warriors. Top half of the league is my guess. To Be The Man, You Must Beat The Man!

Posted July 14th, 2010 11:40 PM IP Have heard that Bates is the front runner, but I have no idea. Yes they have Trusty and Coil back, but their big problem is going to be size.

Posted July 15th, 2010 05:43 AM IP What a mess the Mohawk situation must be to not have selected a coach yet? It isn't like Conkle made a late decision he resigned in early spring.

Posted July 15th, 2010 02:33 PM IP So if I had to guess at this point, and this is without any known transfers, in or out, I would see the league this way.
1. Carey
2. Seneca East
3. Calvert
4. New Riegel
5. St Joe
6. Mohawk
7. Old Fort
8. Hopewell Loudon
9. St Wendelin
10. Lakota
11. Bettsville
12. North Baltimore
I guess the bottom half of this league is a toss up, put 7-12 in a hat and draw them out. Coach Beddingfield walks into a good situation at SE, so he has to succeed and get them over the hump now. With numbers and hype come expectations now. With Mohawk, were these kids able to play this summer in any team camps or do any shootouts? I can't imagine them not having a coach in place yet in Sycamore. To Be The Man, You Must Beat The Man!

Posted July 16th, 2010 03:30 PM IP The Warriors are behind the 8-ball already. Since there is no head coach named yet the team has not had any summer workouts. There is some talent coming back but can they get it together. Drew Trusty (6.3 ppg), Caleb Coil (8.3 ppg) and Drew Book (3.7 ppg) will be the scoring threats. Northing returns inside except for Robert Gilliland and he stands only about 6'0" tall. Middle of the pack or below. "When all is said and done, there is usually more said than done."

Posted July 17th, 2010 02:54 PM IP Looking at returning ppg and varsity/JV records from last year and coaching changes here is my predicted order of finish:
1. Seneca East (If game vs Carey is Home)
1. Carey (If game vs. Seneca East is Home)
3. Calvert
4. SJCC
5. Hopewell
6. New Riegel
7. Old Fort
8. Bettsville
9. St. Wendelin
10. Mohawk
11. North Baltimore
12. Lakota
I really look for Mohawk to struggle. I don't think Konkle got the credit he deserved. I have not been impressed with the basketball talent the past few years. ( I suppose you could blame him for this too) I think it was his system and emphasis on defense that allowed them to be competitive. I don't see the new coaching situation working out. New coach, not much talent, below average JV team from last year... looks like trouble.

Posted July 22nd, 2010 11:24 AM IP I will admit, this is only my observation from a distance. And I am speaking from watching his teams at Arcadia. But I was never a big fan. Teams seemed disorganized and kind of clueless. But its not like others have had much success at Arcadia either so maybe it wasn't all his fault.
He is a graduate of Mohawk. My guess would be no older than 32-33.His latest coaching position was I believe Freshmen at Fostoria. And I will say that the few Mohawk alums I have spoken to that know him are very disappointed in the hire. Not much belief that he will be successful. Given this situation and the below average talent, thats why I am expecting Mohawk to struggle more than expected. Who knows though...

Posted July 23rd, 2010 11:01 AM IP Swoosh, hopefully he gets things turned around and Mohawk is on the up and up. He could take a page out of SE new coach and call kids who aren't showing up at open gyms
Sounds like a lot of new coaches in the MAL this year coupled with a few new ones last year.
By my account, and this is only from the Davey1 website, but new coaches are at the following schools as of last year and this year:
Mohawk
Seneca East
Hopewell Loudon
North Baltimore
Bettsville
Fremont St Joe
Old Fort
Lakota
8 of 12 schools have new coaches in the past 2 years! Wow!
Who does this make the longest tenured coach at his current school in the MAL? To Be The Man, You Must Beat The Man!

Posted July 28th, 2010 05:34 PM IP Just thought I would let you all know that Keith Diebler put his name in for the Mohawk job. Fortunately for the Warrior faithful, he didn't get it. Heard this from a reliable source. "When all is said and done, there is usually more said than done."

Posted July 28th, 2010 06:40 PM IP Why do you think Coach Deibler would have been a bad hire? I was familiar with him from his days at Upper when they played a bunch of times over closer to where I moved from and I always liked the style they played and never had anyone say they didnt like Keith. Your thought process is interesting nonetheless. To Be The Man, You Must Beat The Man!

Posted September 28th, 2010 09:01 AM IP Why would Trusty not go out for basketball? I only saw the kid play 2 or 3 times, but he was a very good player. He'll be playing when hoops season rolls around, I just find that one hard to believe. To Be The Man, You Must Beat The Man!

Posted September 28th, 2010 04:52 PM IP Behind the Arc, Trusty is going to run in college and probably doesn't want to risk getting hurt for his final track season. I support his decision, his future is running not basketball.

Posted September 28th, 2010 11:22 PM IP That logic could apply to so many. Will Brant Reardon at Fremont not play because his calling will be track? He was the State High Jump Champion ya know. How about Michael Dennis last year, he was full ride to MSU for football. Kids are kids, getting ready for track season in the winter is absurd to me, but it is his decision and one must respect it. Something tells me he'll regret it come December. I still think a competitor like him will come out to play. Things like career 3 pointers won't factor into it at all though! Posted September 29th, 2010 03:27 AM IP Distance running takes a ton more dedication and commitment than you could possibly imagine. The good ones train all year-round. He's hungry for a state title, he's not going to get that playing basketball.
