Ive never seen such a quiet under the radar 16-3 season as NL is having. Not alot of talk or press on them this year. Coach Tom Howell has done an excellent job over there in southern Huron County!

I think they won 12 in a row now and have the chance to atleast share the conference title with a win over the Flyers on Friday.
A possible 17-3 record before rolling into battle with Wynford at sectionals.

I went to one game this year and they lost to WR that night. Ive stayed away since then and they havent lost , LOL!

1. Is the game going to be on WLKR radio on Friday since the game is at St.Paul.
2. How many seniors are on this team that NL will have to replace for the following year.

I think that's cause there's mostly only NL posters or former NL alumnus on here, and the few that aren't tend to think we like to talk too much as it is, lol. NL will have to replace 3 senior starters, including 2 very hard to replace post players, but we will still have our starting POY candidate & starting PG.

I don't want to jinx us so I won't say anything until after Friday night. That game will not be easy. Might have to borrow another $1.99 for my beverage of choice if we pull it off.

^^^You're pretty close runandshoot. I think the solid NL posters have backed off because every time they say something, there is a negative, over the top and in most cases uninformed NL poster there to rip into them. Things do seem to be better lately though so maybe we can start having some good conversations again!
Anyway, I would like to congratulate Tom Howell on being named district coach of the year. Good job T-Bone, you deserve it.

Haven't gotten a chance to see a NL game this year but its been nice tracking them as the season progressed. Great job Cats and stay focused on the SP game as it's definitely not a gimme. And here's hoping for a Crestview win over Western.

I just speak facts. Ive watched this team and they arent a group of superstars. The league is horrible this year. Period. I can always count on you to tell me that the league isnt down tho. How blind you are, how do you read this site when it doesnt come in braille? I think some people cant look past win/loss columns.

Who spiked your pepsi today? Should we expect Wynford to win by 30 plus at Lexington? If so I will save my $ and catch the Norwalk game.

You can write it any way you want. We all know exactly what you are going Say when NL is on top of the league in anything..... The FC is down. You've been saying it for years. Here's how down the league is in basketball. NL has won the 7th grade, freshman, and JV FC titles this year. If the varsity wins tomarrow, that would be 4 titles out of 5 for our basketball program. Also we cant count out our 5th and 6th graders this w/e. The people involved in Our basketball program deserve alot of credit for what they Are accomplishing this season.

Its nice for them to win stuff at all those grades, but it still doesnt mean NL is good this year. You will see what I mean in the tourney. NL is the best FC team this year, but that's really not saying much since the conference is horrible. Put NL in a conference that has the teams all in the same division, they would be in the middle of the pack. It helps being in the top half in size of schools playing little schools. If NL gets beat by Wynford next week, would you take me to the pizza house,...your treat? This goes to you fire the coach also.
Its good to win a FC title again (if they dont lose tomorrow), but if they cant go anywhere in tourney.......whats the season amount to? Same with every other sport. Ive seen too many basketball, baseball, softball teams from NL have "a great season" that get no where in tourney.

Alright, I'll bite. Since what has happened this year "doesnt mean NL is good this year" I've got to ask what you define as "good?" The 94 football team got knocked out in the first round, even though they went undefeated in the regular season...were they good? Didn't do much in the tournament. A few years back, Liberty Benton knocked NL out before regionals...was that team good. Baseball team won the AP poll, then stumbled in the tourny...was that team good? I'll take a 16-3 team after 19 games any year...and I'll even call them good. Half the schools they played this year are their size or better in enrollment. I am sure the boys want a deep tournament run, and I hope they get it, but with or without, they've had a good season. At least I think that's what good means. How many tournament games does a team have to win to reach the aforementioned "good" status?

Get the facts straight HEHATEME. St. Paul's jv team is 12-1 while New London's JV team is 11-2 in the FC. So technically, St. Paul has already won the JV title and New London could earn a share of it with a win on Friday!! Having said that, New London is having a great season throughout their program.

All I did was say this team isnt great, then people had their comments and I explained why they arent great. Ive went to my share of games, and they are just an average NL team that has a good record based off the down competition. This team record wise might look like teams from the Marshall days, early 90's, late 80's, but...........this team would get drilled by any of the "good" NL teams from the past. THis team would get drilled by past WR teams also. As I said, they have a good record and congrats on winning the FC if they do so.
And as for good seasons and tourney runs. It doesnt make sense that NL is ranked in baseball many years, has great softball teams, had good basketball teams just a few years ago, but yet they dont get no where. The farthest is a first round regional. Dont tell me that the baseball team has done anything what they should in tourney. And dont tell me that these great softball teams have amounted to much in tourney (i think they made first round regionals one year and got a one hitter thrown against them, kinda like how NL's "#1 ranked baseball team" got blanked by Woodmore). And I remember Marshalls bball teams that got beat by Clearfork and only scored 30 some points against Woodmore. Why cant these teams amount to anything out of the conference? I will tell you why. IF you notice, theres a trend on who goes far in tourney or wins state titles. Its the small schools in our conference that does all the runs in the tourney. SC, who NL run rules in baseball went to state 2-3 times, SP won football title and vball titles, Ville won wrestling title, Mapleton went to regionals in basketball (on a 2-18 record) and baseball, PLY went to regionals a couple times in basketball. But, what has WR....who's done pretty good in basketball done in tourney? Havent made a regional. What did they do with that 10-0 football team? Lost first round. The smaller schools benefit playing the bigger conference schools.

Congrats to this years NL team.....can only play the teams on your schedule. 16-3 is a great record. If youve read these threads over the years.......every year all conferences stink.....look at the NOL thread....Look at the NCC thread. Look at the MAL thread. Conferences are always 'down'. Especially when the rose colored glasses of years gone by start trying to compare. The good ole days......all teams were always better. Just ask me.....lol

btw, sports must be in a whole different category in the northwestern counties. NL cant beat them hardly ever in football, basketball, baseball, and softball when it comes to tourney/playoffs. And also old timer, the NL football team you brought up was a good team, but they had to play a big division in playoffs due to there not being many divisions back then. If they would of played a d-5 type division like they are now (or d-6), they could of done some damage.

Sounds like the same argument buckeye fans give every year for their pitiful schedule. And what is the result of their pitiful schedule?? Getting beat in bowl games.

Congrats to the wildcats and coach Howell on their fc title. It's well deserved with a 17-3 season.

Confrere to the SP jv team for defeating the wildcats and winning the jv standings with a 13-1 record and the outright title.

Wildcats just came home with their police/fire truck escort and their new solo FC conference championship. Congrats & thanks to Crestview for their sweep of Western & for helping NL to not share the title. Way to go boys, celebrate tonight, because tomorrow we start the new tournament season 0-0. CV may get a rematch. But I still like our odds

97Cat I have just one question for you. What sport did you actually play at New London? All you do is get on here, bash and bash and bash and shoot off at the mouth. There are enough people like this in this community, why not support our kids and give them the credit that they deserve. It's not fair to these kids. You had your time to shine in school, AND you DIDN'T..EVER!!These guys earned it and you sure the heck didn't think they could do it, even if it was such a "weak" conference.

If crestview plays like they did tonight they will be a TOUGH out in the tourney.. Tyler George had 17 points and 23 rebounds if there was any exclamation point on his player of the year season.. Jake Hill was 5-6 from three
