Posted June 21st, 2011 11:21 AM IP I expect a really good season from the Cats this year. They have good size, lots of experience and great depth. This is what I think the line up will be.Starters followed by back ups.
1.Smith - Hamilton
2.Held - Thomas
3.LaFleur
4.Hall - Dillard and Bollin
5.Hopkins - Dillard and Bollin
I know there are some other capable players, but I see these guys as the primary rotation. I look for Held, LaFluer, Hall and Hopkins to all average 10 plus a game. They are all good rebounders too. Dillard and Bollin will bring a physical presence to the court for sure. I've heard they have had a very good summer so far.
Go Cats!

Posted July 18th, 2011 01:13 PM IP ^^^^^ In what way do you disagree? He is better than I think or he won't start? Or do you mean scoring? I feel like he is capable of doing more than he has, hope he steps up this year.

Posted July 21st, 2011 10:30 PM IP I think he will start I just disagree with you on his scoring average, he's not a great shooter and he has trouble finishing in the lane at times. You're right though that he is very capable, he's extremely athletic... I just think that he tends to play a little too comfortable if you know what I mean.

Posted October 30th, 2011 01:58 PM IP Posted on the other thread....
While I am a New London supporter, their is no way they should be considered the early favorite for the title. A contender, yes. The favorite... Not so fast my friend. New London while returning most of their team was only 9-11 last season. Their "Bigs" will have to really work the boards much harder than the other team to be succesfull. I believe our tallest is only 6' 2". That puts you at a disadvantage from the get go. The team should be better but it's not a given they will be.
Plymouth with their transfer and with Benfer/Miller should surprise. Crestview is another team that will surprise as well. I think New London can make a solid run at the title but they are going to have to play their best ball each night. I know the past New London teams would out work you, we will see if this group has the same makeup. If they do, they have a chance.

Posted October 30th, 2011 05:58 PM IP I agree with you ACF I wouldn't hand it to NL either. Plymouth, Crestview, and Western should all be tough. Plymouths transfer/Benfer and Hintz from SC are the only 3 that I can think of that are 6'3" or taller. Is their anyone else with some height?

Posted November 1st, 2011 01:14 PM IP I wouldn't say that NL is the favorite, but they should certainly challenge for the league title. Personally I like their chances. I know how hard alot of these kids have worked in the weight room and see that helping them in the paint. We'll get Dane Held's best effort every time they step on the floor. If Clay Hall can bring to the court what he displayed on the football field he will be hard for anyone to hold down. Hopkins and Smith are solid players and I look for Bollin and Dillard to give big contributions also. I look for Lafleur, Shays and Hamilton to give us steady play also. Like I said they aren't the preseason favorites, but everything is there for them to win it in the end. I know it's my personal bias, but I love this group of kids and know that they'll compete to the very end of every game. If Dane steps up and really takes control of this team as a leader they'll have a great season and could even make some noise in the tournament! Good luck Wildcats!

Posted November 1st, 2011 06:06 PM IP Agree Red71, I'd like to see Dane step up the scoring a tad and I believe he will. Usually see a jump in scoring going from the Sophomore season to the Junior season. Also agree that if Hall brings the intensity that I saw on Friday nights he could put New London over the top. Got to keep him on the court thought (foul trouble). As I said earlier, we have have to win the battle of the boards to succeed. The overall talent depth is pretty good, and we have been pretty solid on D. Just need to pick up the scoring a bit.
Good luck to all BB teams (even the girls). Goodness knows I'll have to go to those games now.

Posted November 1st, 2011 09:38 PM IP I think that New London should probably be the favorite to win the conference but I definitely agree that it will only come if they work as hard as they are capable of. I can see whoever wins the conference having as many as 3 or 4 losses. ACF I agree with you that rebounding will be a huge key for New London, but to be honest I really think that crashing the boards will be one of NL's biggest strengths. Hopkins can jump out of the gym and I think he averaged close to 10 rebs a game last year. Hall should average close to 10 boards a game, and Bollin and Dillard could quite possibly be two of the best post bench players in the league this year. Plus as was mentioned earlier... there really isn't a whole lot of height in the conference this year.

Posted November 1st, 2011 10:53 PM IP ^^^^^I agree that rebounding will be a strength of the team this year. Hopkins has springs for legs and most of the rest of the team will scrap and fight for every loose ball. Scoring is what I worry about the most. By that I mean I would like to see some consistent scoring out of a couple of these guys. It would be nice to have a couple guys that will get you 12 or14 every game no matter what.(not 18 one night and 4 the next) Hopefully with all the experience back we will be able to have that consistency. It will be much easier to coach this team if you have a strong idea of what you are going to get every night.(rotation, situational play, depth etc.)
