Posted March 11th, 2012 09:48 PM IP The great thing is that no ones opinions matter. Perkins can (and has) proven they are a good team on the court. Bad teams don't beat the #3 team in D2 to advance to regionals.

Posted March 11th, 2012 10:13 PM IP 200 Teams started tournament play in DII about 3 weeks ago in different parts of the state. 16 are left and Perkins is one of them. Somehow, I don't think anyone associated with Perkins gives a hoot what anybody thinks about them. They are practicing basketball this week and playing a game on Thursday night. Kids and fans from 184 other schools are looking forward to Spring Sports.

That team didn't even make it out of sectionals.

Posted March 11th, 2012 10:32 PM IP Port Clinton took a lot of bad raps on here 2 years ago but they played as a team and for a state championship. Zanesville was a much quicker team than PC but PC won 51-50. Down 42-40 with 6 minutes to go in the game against Dayton Dunbar before the gas tank went dry. They defeated 2 WBL teams along the way. WBL is a strong league as Elida and Ottawa-Glandorf are both in the sweet 16 in Div. 2 and 3 this year. Perkins is only 2 wins away from Columbus and defeated a very good Defiance team. Anyone that says they aren't a great team is wrong and also jealous of their success. I hope Perkins gets the kind of support that PC got at the regionals and state. Perkins kids deserve it.

Posted March 11th, 2012 10:48 PM IP Perkins has worked hard all season and deserve every win they get. I am happy that there is an SBC school in regionals, but lets face it, they are not as talented as the teams they are about to play.............. The PC team from 2 years ago was way better than this years Perkins

Posted March 11th, 2012 11:56 PM IP Saying the PC team is better is one thing, but saying that previous Perkins team is another. I too have had a fair share of run-ins with Coach McVeigh, FWIW. Couldn't be more thrilled for the guy. Seems he's built an excellent program. You, me, and the proletariat make three, baby.

Posted March 12th, 2012 06:54 AM IP Like this year's team, I saw virtually every game the prior Pirate team played. That also was a very talented group of players. They had a number of close calls that year...including their only loss at PC in the final game of the regular season and their tourney loss to Fostoria (which also had a very good team that year) I think their OVERALL schedule was a bit stronger and the SBC was a markedly better league that year. Their sectional was better too.
On the other hand, I think this year's team is the best team man for man I've seen play at Perkins. Their two losses both came when a key player was out with injury...one of those losses to a DI regional team who has yet to lose. They have not been at full strength really but are approaching that now it seems. Yet they have only two losses to good teams and have pretty much dominated every one else with a couple of exceptions.
Their dominance of a REAL GOOD Defiance team was remarkable. It was just one game, but what a stage it came on. Teams don't always play to their potential, but it's not likely to see a team play to a level they are not capable of.
Can they sustain that? If I knew that, I'd have been living somewhere warmer the last few months. Repleat with sand, water and azure blue skies.
But they are talented enough. And keep in mind teams beat other teams with more "talent" all of the time. It happens on a regular basis this time of year.
As I said...lace em' up. What other people think of me is none of my business.

Posted March 12th, 2012 09:29 AM IP This year's Perkins team has one thing that the Hallock team didn't have and that is TRUE BIG MAN. Caudill, I think that was his name, was a very athletic post player who caused match-up problems for people but the Ebert kid is a Man. Ebert causes problems for opponents on both ends of the floor. I don't care how athletic Brookhaven is, they still have account for Ebert down low, good luck with that.
It's funny this topic is brought up, because the same thing was said about the PC team from 2-years ago. Many have said there were plenty of other PC teams that were more talented than that group. Team Chemistry in basketball can never be overrated

Posted March 12th, 2012 11:23 AM IP Coaches_son, You say you know Scott personally. Would you tell the things you say on here to his face? I highly doubt it and I highly doubt you know his personally on that note either. You want to say that this team is not even as talented as the years past pirate ball team. Why don't you ask players like Caudill, Doster, Schaffer, Lowe should I go on or do you get the point. To say they are leaps and bound better then this years team is very far off. Remember you have two sophmores help lead this team, with some damn fine juniors and seniors running up and down that court as well. Perkins couldn't even get out of the sectionals when that "powerhouse" team your talking about was around. If your from perkins you should be ashamed to come on here and bash your school like that.
As for the game, I read in the paper this is the first year Columbus Brookheaven has been in D2. If the pirates can find another way to win this time, they should be looked as a true contender. These kids mean business and I think for some it might have took this long for it to sink it but the pirates got a good shot and making it even deeper then what they already have gotten too.
Im going to say this.
Perkins- 66
Brookeheaven- 61 Fresh like Oj

Posted March 12th, 2012 11:42 AM IP Basketball is down recently. Teams aren't as good as they used to be. Scores are low and not because of defense. Kids don't have a passion for the game. And yes I would tell Scott that he has had more talent in his program.

Posted March 12th, 2012 12:42 PM IP The similarities between Perkins and Port Clinton of two years ago are kind of freaky. Both lost one of their best players and both are considered not as good as years gone by. Both had to listen to the complaints that they didn't play anybody.
Now can Perkins take their game to the next level needed to get to state? PC was able to pull together and get that done. Here's to hoping that Perkins can get the job done.
Enjoy the ride in the meantime Pirates! It's a helluva ride. I'd rather spend eternity in hell than spend five minutes in a heaven filled with people like vogel.
