The OHSAA seems to be trying to re-invent the wheel with all of their "competitive balance" studies and referendum votes etc....
A thought here, but in boys and girls basketball, they may be able to calm the waters without some complicated formula. At the Sectional Level, assign Private Schools their own sites and Public Schools their own sites.
District, Regional and State would be combined Private and Public. While I am aware of the increased travel that will be involved with this kind of structure, the NW District has demonstrated little regard for travel concerns right now. Edison, Perkins, Clyde, Lake, and Woodmore amongst others will be traveling close to an hour or more this year for a mid-week Sectional game.
At the DI Level for example, you could have a "Sectional" of Toledo SJJ, Toledo SF, Toledo CC, Cleveland St. Ed's, Cleveland St. Iggy, and one more play at Sanduksky. DIV could be a "Sectional" of SMCC, SJCC, St. Paul, St. Wendilen, Calvert, Toledo Christian, Maumee Valley, Emanuel Baptist at Port Clinton. Not sure how many DII, DIII Privates there are and how this might play out for them.
Personally, I want to see the best teams regardless of Private/Public, playing in the State Tournament but also realize there are many who feel Privates have an advantage and want to see something done about it. Hence all of the "competitive balance" studies.
It seems to be the time of year when Public v. Private arguments get rolling, thought I would get a head start.
