Posted December 18th, 2011 11:48 AM IP Sorry gang, but I need to hijack this forum...
A brief welcome home reception is planned this evening at Huron High School to bring former Huron standout and NCAA champion Sara Sage back to Huron. Friends, fans, former teammates, coaches and well wishers are asked to meet behind the home stands on Jim Campbell Blvd. at approximately 7:15pm this evening (December 18th, 2011). The family expects to arrive in Huron at 7:30pm with a police escort to Huron Memorial Stadium. Please contact Mac Lehrer 419 357-4004 or Dennis Wechter (419) 602-1594 with any questions. Wear your Tiger colors and bring your Tiger pride to welcome home our newest champion. Thank you

Posted December 18th, 2011 10:57 PM IP When Sara put that last one down I could imagine her dad with the "boom-chahka-lahka" call. I let one out myself.
It's been quite a road for her, and I totally agree with SV that it was fitting she got championship point on her swing. What other people think of me is none of my business.

I said that very thing to Jon last night...It was a "boom-chahka-lahka" swing that ended the match. How perfectly appropriate...

Posted December 20th, 2011 10:56 PM IP Congrats to her on being a part of this however I have no clue why the Huron folks (race, ltl and SV) are going back and forth about this on the SBC boys BASKETBALL forum. Oh well good for her on accomplishment and hopefully she came out of this with a degree and good luck in the next phase of life...

Posted December 20th, 2011 11:09 PM IP We generally put major accomplishments by non-money sport athletes on the board of whichever sport is in season (football or bball). The most people see these threads and it gets the most attention for our SBC athletes whom we are all proud of.
I'd rather spend eternity in hell than spend five minutes in a heaven filled with people like vogel.

Since we don't have too many D-1, national champions hanging around the area, I'm sure Sage gets in first time. I don't think we've had anyone at that level before at Huron. Sandusky has had a few national champs, and I think Perkins has, but at Huron, this could be a first.

3 time all ohioian, 2 time first team all ohioian, holds 3 records (kills season, kill %, kills career) division I recruit, national champion... i think that would merit it..
There may have been a couple tigers on teams in a national title game . none have scored any points for their teams, and for sure none put the final exclamation point on the title.. THE TIGER NATION.. represented in 50 states and parts of Canada!

Posted December 21st, 2011 10:05 AM IP I was not considering college accomplishments but I agree, the only things that could hurt her case would be being a one sport athlete (for the most part) and somewhat a lack of team success.
Who was our last vballer to be honored? Sarah Wilbur? Or has she not come up yet..

Very valid points but a majority of athletes in the Huron Hall of Fame don't have a state championship.

that happens more times then not believe it or not... best high school volleyball player in Ohio history without a doubt is Nicole Fawcett, never got past regionals in high school.. won 2 or 3 national titles at penn state.
thing with a hall of fame you're not honoring a person because of team success, its individual success..
there are many who are one sport standouts.
sometimes when you have a very talented team (miami heat comes to mind) the chemestry isnt there for whatever reason. it never comes together..
the 2009 huron team that won state, was probably the least of the 6 teams that made the final four when it came to athletic talent.. but they were fundamentally sound and played very well together...
the last vballer was Cori Lively who went in this year, last year was nikki and kirsta. wilber goes in 2013 if shes a first time hit...

What's ironic is the Sage thread is getting more action that the Norwalk/Clyde thread...

Race,
There is more traffic on the football threads in the off season than basketball at this time.

Posted December 22nd, 2011 11:40 PM IP Sara was at Bellevue in elementary school, and played a basketball game against the teachers in 6th grade. My mother was the asst. principal at the school, and had to do the jump ball against Sara. My mother is quite tall--nearly 6'. And Sara was taller.
Congrats to Sara. Huron should be proud, and this should be in whatever forum brings it the most attention.
You, me, and the proletariat make three, baby.

Posted December 31st, 2011 12:05 AM IP As far as NCAA champions. The most recent that I can think of in DI are Brandon Schnittker ( Perkins ) and Tim Anderson ( Clyde ) from the Ohio St. National Champions in football.

Posted December 31st, 2011 12:07 AM IP as i stated race...she becomes huron's first FEMALE (not sure if the sbc's first) to play in a national championship game in DIVISION I .. then to get a chance to live that childhood dream to win the title game by scoring the final point. WoW.. I guess its a great ending to a very solid career.. but thanks for the compliments.. and it was a good effort to try and break margaretta's hot spell in the first quarter, (with the extended in between quarter).. lol THE TIGER NATION.. represented in 50 states and parts of Canada!

to take that one step further, has anyone in the SBC boys or girls scored in a national title game?

track, CC, swimming? dont know either.. but we dont usually see many go D-1 in a premier program..
Cierra is really the biggest D-1 name in recent years, but FSU with 6 losses isnt likely to make the NCAA tourney at this rate.. You'd almost have to be a big ten athlete or major college athlete elsewhere to have a shot... THE TIGER NATION.. represented in 50 states and parts of Canada!
