Posted April 29th, 2007 10:33 PM IP Can't speak for Berserker, but the ASR-10 is highly sought after for its classic sound. It really adds punch to drum and basslines sound awesome on it. The filters and effects are known for having a really warm sound. You can do alot of shaping of the sample thats just not possible on a mpc. The downside is a rather simplistic, limited sequencer, I believe it only gave you 8 tracks. Alot of people combine them with mpcs to get the best of both worlds, the sound of the asr with the rock solid sequencing of the mpc.
It's simple, easy, old as hell, and people will still pay top dollar for them. Pretty much a perfect match for hip hop.
Don't mind the hive.

Posted April 30th, 2007 07:58 AM IP man i would love an ASR-10, been seeking one for a long ass time, but one ebay auction i was watching didnt follow through....
i love the sound from the asr-10, take a listen to any one of deeskees, omids, or factors beats, and then listen to a beat from a mpc guy, theirs a HUGE difference, the way it colors the mid and hi range sounds is amazing, but if yournot taking samples from vinyl, it wouldnt really matter.....
hopefully one day i'll be able to get one and a sp12 turbo!!
but good luck finding one! im sure you already know, but make sure its got the OS boot disc and scsi expansion, as both pieces are pretty dang hard to find! www.honolulu.craigslist.org would be your best bet, ebay is coo, but tha things like 20-30+lbs, so shippings like dang.....
edittt...
try checkin this site if you really really want one, or anyone who's interested in picking up ensoniq gear, try calling to see what he has in stock!
www.thesoniq.com
i emailed the guy a few times, but ended up finding a 2000xl locally...
this guys i tihnk the last certified ensoniq technician cause they merged with E-MU during the 90's sometime and theirs not too many places with parts and people who know how to properly repair ensoniq gear.....

thats a really really good price to pay, IF it has the SCSI Expansion, if not i wouldnt bother with it, cause it'd be pretty difficult to find the scsi expansion, or if you really want to save to floppy discs that'd be cool....
but some things to ask if your considering picking it up, try emailing the seller
if it has the SCSI and if it has the 16MB Ram expansion
but dnag shipping would be around 100+ for it, so i dunno how badly you want it, i dont think in the past year i've been looking at craigslist that theirs been an ASR-10 for sale, i've seen only a few mpcs a 2000xl,3000, and a 60... i think i only know of two people on this island with the asr-10, fibes and indeed., oh dang forgot about Rhyme the Old Man! he uses the ASR as well!
