We are looking for contestants for this year's battle in Oakland. If you are interested hit me up on estria.com. We would really like folks to rep for Hawaii. Last year we had Ckaweeks, Prime, Ozwego and Katch and they represented hard.
Last year we had an art show, slide presentation, panel discussion and film night. This year we are looking to do it just as big. Come check it out and help us advance this movement on a national level.
(and rep Hawaii as the place to be reckoned with).
If you know of anyone else who may be interested, especially anyone outside of the bay area, please put me in touch with them.

Posted October 20th, 2010 05:47 AM IPFrom what I understand Vyal didnt win by much on the point scale, Jher killed it and should have gotten first but thats the way the points went I guess.
Gosers one is funny as hell, using pills and alcohol to heal. Whats even funnier was him and like 20 of his homies were "healing" off keystone light and buds around him painting.

Posted October 20th, 2010 05:57 AM IPthat Vyal killed it for me and i thought it was sick! who am i to judge?
yet this debate happens every year with art. that's the nature of judging art. it is what it is and sometimes it's total bull shit. but then again, with the right circumstances bullshit sells. Banksy recognizes that shit and knows it. that's what made that movie great. and yet the following builds even greater. you feel it just by how much people say "i've been down with his shit since day one!" when his movie came out. lol. art lives.

Posted October 20th, 2010 06:58 PM IPHe got selected as a fill in for a contestant that didn't show up. It's a different atmosphere painting for a battle, more cans/colors than you ever used, time restraints, people interviewing/talking to you and so on. Yes contestants are there to battle, but the GREATER GOAL is to absorb the culture and represent YOUR CULTURE through graffiti. So the entry may have been toy, but the representation sure wasn't.
