And potentially ruining the credibility of Hawaii artists for the future. Smooth move.
Os is dope and he doesn't usually go kanakaole all over everyone so idk what he was trying to do. He could've had a chance to win if he focused on his punches instead of sounding like that kid in middle school who only ever busts pidgin when he's about to scrap.Honolulu Hate Committee

Posted June 4th, 2010 06:38 AM IPI feel you on the moke action ryhmes.
One round is cool to juice up the crowd,
but after that you gotta come with 2 rounds of word play, punches, and next level.
You can tell if you watch the battle the level
that Osna's on and the level that DirtbagDan is on.
When Os, get there hes gonna be dope.
...welcome to the marathon...

this is just like when local comedians try to make it big on the mainland and only people from hawaii that moved away go to their shows cus only they get the jokes.
you gotta be relevent to everyone. These fools come from minnesota or los angeles and wherevers and WE IN HAWAII watch the videos thinking they dope when they just doing where they from. Now take the formula and reverse it so MINNESOTA thinks Hawaii got dope emcees (cus we do....maybe not all motivated, but DOPE)
You can do HI and still be dope worldwide. Sam Choy can make people take a second look about spam.Be relevent.

Posted June 11th, 2010 05:37 AM IPyou guys are being a bunch of small fags. so maybe homie went overboard with the local references, but why the fuck should we be concerned with that being a bad look for the credibility of HI artists?
as of now, there really is no standard and very little to lose. homie is doing him, building his product, and putting in work, and thats a great look for anybody, specially for someone in our "scene"
opinions are like assholes, so make sure you put plenny lube before you ram ya bots down um *no bethel st.

Posted June 11th, 2010 01:15 PM IPWell as much as you or Osna may not care about the legitimacy of Hawaii artists, I'm sure there are tens times as much people out there that do. Not everybody wants to be Augie T and only perform Hawaii/Las Vegas., one of these cats might want to branch out. Having the cat with the most limelight in the battle tarnish our image isn't a good look for anybody, even if you yourself are comfortable never moving past the local stage.
The point I was making was dude had a chance to set the standard and he decided to moke out instead, which isn't even his normal style. Like guy up there said, you can do HI and still be dope worldwide. No point in seemingly purposefully excommunicating the rest of the audience. Honolulu Hate Committee

Kav here's my suggestion. GT format. Nothing that is being posted is meant to cause beef, just some good emcee match ups. Dream line up...
Undercard:
Makepa vs. TKO
Harumi vs. Clay D
obese j vs. Loaf (he'll have some ghost writers)
Main Event:
Nabahe vs Creed
Omega6 vs OSNA
Mox vs Mainland MC
EK vs Mainland MC "If you're a leader with no followers...your just taking a walk"

Posted June 11th, 2010 03:23 PM IPlike it or not, os took HIS opportunity and did what he wanted with it. tarnish what image? set what standard? he put himself out there, made great connects, repd local shit super tough, and paved the way for a lot of aspiring local artists. who else is going to expose new (rap/hiphop) audiences to Hawaiʻis distinct cultural differences?
overboard or not, the battle will generate a good buzz and have lots of viewers interested in learning more/understanding local slang/style/etc. or not. other battlers with distinct language/vocabulary differences have been doing the same. they are the ones putting their city on, bringing their demographic to the forefront, not the ones conforming to their audience. there are enough of those lames to remember as is.
ps - this is battle rap, guys. controversy and eccentricity = generates views. like the great ones (math, aye verb...) have said, you have to hit em with something theyve never seen before.

Posted June 11th, 2010 04:14 PM IPjust a side note, i posted the 2 on 2 in some forum where all the gt cats post and shit. the response was overwhelmingly positive, which is funny cuz they really hated the System Overload video. I think osna's doing fine so far. Time will tell

I'm just trying to say, thebest case scenario if Osna rapped the same way he usually always does is that he kills DBD, Grindtime takes notice, gives Hawaii more spotlight, puts a few more Hawaii artists in rotation, good look for Hawaii. Worst case scenario, he loses.
Best case scenario for what he ended up doing... He becomes most popular battle rapper in Waianae and his name randomly appears in the heads of GT fans when they walk by a can of spam at the store. Worst case, he makes Hawaii look like it can't hang with the rest of the world and no one gives us another shot.
That's just the way I see it, agree or disagree. I think when the vid comes out the comments will prove what I'm saying.Honolulu Hate Committee
Im not a system overload fan either. not a fan of mox signing but fan of mox rapping.
osna and EK was murder!

Posted June 14th, 2010 02:00 AM IPdont be confused by the paved the way comment, i think i have a prettttty good idea about where credit is due. i meant specifically for this format and the newer generation of kids who are influenced primarily by this kind of battle rap.
i just dont agree with the critics.
also - mox kills that system overload track, fuck yer soft spots. yee!
also also - to whomever it applies - can we please work on getting some hawaiʻi island emcees up there to compete as well? we can even have some big i prelims, fly up the winner type deal. can?

Posted June 14th, 2010 09:17 PM IPWanna do a battle in July,
but what format of battle should i do?
Freestyle over beats?
GT?
Redbull EmSee?
End of the Week?
Topical?
Double elimination?...welcome to the marathon...

Posted June 15th, 2010 06:25 AM IPfreestyle over beats seems like the easiest choice. dont know if people feel likes its dated, but whatev. gt rules can but just need to be prearranged.
basically comes down to whether you want it to be (mostly) of the top, or not.
