after doing extensive traveling and attending Bboy summits, Battle of the year, Freestyle Sessions, and other Hawaii and Mainland/Canadian Battles...

Posted September 4th, 2007 03:13 PM IPyou wonder why they win the jams. they always consistant. word red3y3!!!!
question: hawaii got good bboys, but is hawaii on the BBOY map?
example: Havikoro put TEXAS on the map. You think Texas bboys, there you go. Now Hawai'i got glimmers(hows that word) with Rock Steady Hawaii(Big ups to Len and Skillroy and the crew) and then you got the regulars always throwing down(Kelrock/waikiki/ala way/kmf/fos/killawun/lrr/usb/ and the list goes on) but do people think Hawaii=Dope Bboys????(those without hawaii ties!)

Posted September 4th, 2007 03:49 PM IPyeah but the same shit goes for every element imo.

Posted September 5th, 2007 03:18 PM IPnah fuck that.
all the other elements got reps
djs-Nocturnal won ITF how many times, DJ Skids, Lunateks, 808Gs, even Thud Rumble moved here for a minute. ITF came to hawaii, and not just a qualifier, the main event. i seen Mixmaster mike get his LRG jacket!
emcees-06, Prolits, Akira 8, Radioinactive, Neila, Topic, Hi-State, Mox, etc. all rocking the mainland or songs with other heads like Ab Rude and 2Mex
graff-Slick, Katch, 3BM, Mean all killing Hawaii and took that shit Nationwide
but what with the bboys from the perspective of outsiders. there are dope bboys but they havent taken it to the top
no diss to nobody. its all love but im throwing 2 cents. and don't get mad if you not on the list they were just examples. i never list everyone

Posted September 5th, 2007 03:57 PM IPyeah, I didn't mean it as a diss to anyone either but Idunno, I still dont see the B-Boys as the 'weak element' of our scene. Its prolly because I dont know that much about breaking in the first place, but I've been impressed every time I see them on their grind.
Also, at times I've felt like the breakers are the most supported members of the local hip hop community. The bboys fill up that filicom every month and all share in eachothers success while I cant even count how many times i've seen emcees rapping on stage to their four hommies in the crowd.
And you're right about the dj's. Hawaii has gotten pretty lucky in the dj department.

these so-called bboys don't love and support hip hop, they support their break dancing, but they do absolutely nothing to help progress Hip Hop in hawaii..
they dont show up to anything but bboy battles, meaning no concerts no events, all they do is support what they do, whereas MC's support pretty much everyone, Dj's support pretty much everyone, and Graff heads support everyone....
respect to the Older Folk REJ 808 RSC Waikiki bboys and whatever other crew with the older HEADS who are constantly out at shows, but the youth need to step up and support something other than themselves.......
its pretty much the package deal if you atttend a funky4 event, they pretty much incorporate everything into one event, but with that, those dudes get lazy and dont support anything other than funky4, which is wack because funky4 isn't all that there is in hawaii......
these "bboys" dress hip hop, walk hip hop, and talk hip hop, but a lot of them just Fake the Funk and want their 10 minutes of shine and then when the trend dies down they go and do something else.....

Posted September 5th, 2007 06:27 PM IPbboys will only get better if the music gets better. fresh music = fresh inspiration.....and they need to study the history. and practice....lol.....
peace
