| As of Sunday 16th May 2010 this forum is closed. I know I've done it before but I allowed myself to be persuaded to reopen it against my better judgement hence why I have put no forewarning on the forum prior to this happening. I know that some of you relied on this forum as an outlet because of stringent admission rules elsewhere but there is nothing stopping anyone doing what I did and setting up your own OMD forum or creating a group on a Social Networking site. It's not rocket science and, if you look around at what's already on offer, you will see that it doesn't take a genius to create something interesting. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have posted or looked in over the past few years. It was fun while it lasted! :) I sincerely hope we finally get to hear 'The History of Modern' and I hope it proves to be worth the wait for all of us long suffering, yet super-patient, diehards. The Compiled web site will remain in situ (until someone decides to tear it down) as a tribute to the band from a few of their fans but this old caveman has had enough of chasing dinosaurs and it's time to hang up my club and go do something more interesting instead. To Ian, Mark C, Dave S and the Forum Regulars may I express my thanks. If the new album is any good I'll go buy it and I may even pop along to a gig or two if they tour. All of my friends have my email so it's not as if I'm disappearring off the face of the planet is it! On a personal note: OMD for me were always 1978 to 1983 with a brief 2nd wind in 1996. Aside from that the bulk of material was generally forgettable and, in the case of 1993's 'Universal' album, was sometimes complete and utter pants. Sometimes we kid ourselves that things will last forever but, in reality, it is merely a snapshot existence which is fuelled by false hopes and untainable aspirations. Time moves on and age takes its toll. I don't want to be some saddo middle aged man in charge of a web site that's trying to keep a torch alight for a band whose candle got snuffed more than 20 years ago! I've been there, seen it, done it, worn the Tshirt and now it's been washed so many times it's become faded, frayed and has fallen apart at the seams. I look forward to keeping in contact with people who came by this forum but PLEASE don't mail, message or phone me to reopen this place as I really am not interested any more. I wish you all the very best for the future and hope to see some of you at an OMD concert in the not too distant future...unless the new album is crap in which case maybe the last few fans will have thrown in the towel too and the halls will be even emptier than they were last time round! :) My very best wishes and thanks to you all! :) Kevin 'History of Modern' Tour Dates (sourced omd.uk.com 19/5/10): UK 02/10 - 'Liverpool Wonderous Place' with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra UK 29/10 - Brighton Dome 31/10 - Bristol Colston Hall 01/11 - Nottingham Royal Centre 02/11 - Glasgow Concert Hall 04/11 - Liverpool Arena 05/11 - Ipswich regent 07/11 - London Hammersmith Apollo 08/11 - Birmingham Symphony Hall EUROPE 11/11 - Cologne E-work 12/11 - Hannover Capitol 13/11 - Leipzig Haus Auensee 15/11 - Stuttgart theatrehaus 16/11 - Munich Tonhalle 18/11 - Berlin Tempoddrom 19/11 - Hamburg Docks 21/11 - Luxembourg venue TBC 22/11 - Brussels Ancienne Belgique 23/11 - Amsterdam Paradiso 25/11 - Casino De Paris |
