Do any of our message board members here remember watching Roy and Dales movies on the The Happy Trails Theater, on the TNN channel, hosted by Roy and Dale and usually a guest, back in the 1985- 1986 era ?
The way they ran it, one day they would show one of Roy's movies, and the next day they would have on Gene Autry's Melody Ranch Theater, showing one of his movies.
Anyone here follow those series back then ?

Never got the chance to see the original airing of these classics but they are available in certain features through the museum and other film retailers. I believe the museum carries around 7 or 8 happy trail theater films. |

When at home, I was in front of TV in den...usually sitting on the floor; my favorite place to sit when watching TV at home until my back became so terrible Not only did I enjoy the movies but also enjoyed the guests and the basket Dale had some questions on paper that were from fans and they would answer one or two. I know Art Rush was a guest a few times and Dusty was also. At this time of night, I forget some of other super guests. I was always looking to see what precious Western Attire RR/DE would wear each Saturday. Seems like I taped some of episodes when not at home on an old VCR recorder/player (just thinking about that piece of equipment makes me realize how far technology has come in 20+ years!). Somehow, it seems further back than mid '80's era.............. |

Yes, those films are cut, but the dialog, interviews with guests are whats more important, to me anyway.
When they "cut the movies" they usually take out some insegnificant part like a song that most people can live without. But to some collectors, they want the whole movie.
Someother guest were Penny Edwards, Iron Eyes Cody.
In one of those H.T.T. programs, Roy had Gene Autry as a special guest, and then one time on Gene's Melody Ranch Theater, Gene had Roy and Dale on
as special guest.

Hey Durango Kid
I agree with you about the wraparounds. They are worth the price of the video. I enjoyed Dusty's guest appearances a lot. My other favorite guest was Bill Witney who directed many of Roy's pictures. His recollections of making the pictures was very entertaining. He often referred to Roy and Dale by his nicknames for them as Buck and Missy. I have most of the Happy Trails Theater videos and watch them every week at some point or another. The series was taped in my home state in Knoxville, Tn.
The opening trailer is a treasure all to itself. Whoever put that thing together really knew what they were doing. I can highly recommend them to anyone.
I imagine they can all be purchased at the museum gift shop.
Good thread here.

I really enjoy the Happy Trails versions, and even though they are cut. I think the wraparounds make the movie so much more personal.
One question, were all of the RR movies shown in the Happy Trails theater? |

I do enjoy the Happy Trails wraparounds, but I'm out to collect all of Roy's movies and to me the conent of the film is what's important. If I get all of Roy's movies, uncut, then win the lottery or something, maybe I'll spend it on Happy Trails movies. |

I don't really mind if I get uncut or cut, unless I read somewhere about a really funny scene in a cut movie, and so I really want to see that particular movie. |

I enjoyed The Happy Trails Theater when it was on TV due to the talking between RR/DE/Guests. I also enjoy the uncut versions of the movies. To me, both are priceless. |

I do like un-cut movies. But I love the intros to the Happy Trails Theater movies. |
