I just came up with a pretty amazing theory—anyone want to tell me if I’m right? I watched the Arizona Kid and hated it. Then I heard someone say that it was a realistic portrayal of history so looked up the history on it, and learned that it was pretty accurate. But then—this is the theory—I happened to read a pretty detailed review on Dark Command. The review said that it was the story of the Baintrell Raiders (I think that’s the correct name) during the Civil War. And that’s where I was shocked—because that’s the plotline for Arizona Kid too! At least, it sure seems like the same plot to me. Am I correct? (If so, I sure know who plays the head of the raiders! Not much guessing needed there!) |

Senorita;
You've got the plot right about THE ARIZONA KID, another civil war story. like SOUTHWARD HO. I've never seen Dark Command.

I've seen Dark Command and Arizona Kid, and I think they have the same plot. I really liked Dark Command, partly because RR role was so different then his others! |

I've heard that DARK COMMAND was bad. |

I think that it is really good. No language (that I remember) and Roy, Gabby, and John Wayne are in it. I have memorized most of the movie. I think most people like RR better in other roles though..... Do you know what RR role is like? |

"Dark Command" is one movie I do not remember seeing, although as a child, I may have seen it and forgotten it thru the years. |

Wow, if it's a John Wayne picture and has no language that's amazing! Every one of the five I've seen has had language in it! |

I'll have to try and do that. If I like it it'd be amazing, the only John Wayne I've ever liked was THE QUIET MAN, and that one wasn't a western. I mean, I've liked other John Wayne movies, but not for John Wayne! |

I have watched several John Waynes...... they are on TV often here. My favorite was McLintock. True Grit was good. A little Violent.... some swearing, but I thought the plot was good! And so was the ending! |

TRUE GRIT was good, but only 'cause of the heroine. The only John Wayne that I couldn't STAND was ROOSTER COGBURN AND THE LADY. That one was BAD! MCLINTOCK was good too, the whole thing was funny, but I didn't like Maurien O'Hara's role in that one near as much as I did in THE QUIET MAN. Wasn't she great in that one? |

I couldn't stand watching Dark Command after I saw Roy shoot that man! It was terrible! And I never did like Roy playing a Confederate. |

Uhoh, this sounds bad. Could you tell me what happens in the movie? I've gotta know before I try to watch it, otherwise the TV screen might find something a bit wrong with it. Does Roy play a bad charector? |

RoyRogersFan: Roy plays the heroines younger brother. He is a hothead, who joins the confederete army. He does kill a yankee....... and is in a trial.... but (Much to my relief) is found not guilty....... but no, RR does not play a bad guy or anything like that. John Wayne is his idol in this one. And John Wayne wants to marry RR sister. |

I think my favorite John Wayne movie was "The Green Beret". Some of it was made on military bases near me. |

I'll have to admit, it's kind of cute when Roy and John go waling down the street, and Roy points to John and whispers to the people on the street, "A real cowboy!"
But to me, it sure looked like Roy shot that man in cold blood. Sure they had had a fight, but the gun wasn't even in the guy's hand! And Roy never aims for the heart! |

I thought that was funny to. Roy was SO proud to be walking down the street with a cowboy! |

Okay, maybe I'll just have to see it to figure out whether it's good or not. There's so much division, I'd better see it before I take a battle stance! |

Oog, this sounds BAD!! From what I read, Roy never liked his role in Dark Command much--mostly becasue he was acting in it, unlike all his other movies. Personally, if Roy's idol is John Wayne in it, I think it's one movie I'll SKIP!!! |

I know your feelings about John Wayne.... but in this movie, he's pretty clean. John Wayne was really young. |

I think I might have to watch it, if for no other reason than to decide whether it's good or bad! Everybody around here is being so vauge!!! |

In Dark Command RR had a much more serious role than most of us are used to with him. He played a confed officer LT and joined the raiders to help them plunder northern supplies and storage places. The guy he was serving under was a first class rat though, and RR finally realized it ,toward the end. Not much fun or music in this as I recall, so i can see why many would not like it. I can not recall RR even smiling once in it. |

I'm glad though that he found out about that bad guy, and left the gang in the end. :) |

Well, it still sounds like a rotten role to me. He should have figured that out in the begining!!!!!!!!! |
