Does someone have, or can they get, me the words to the song that Roy sings in SONS OF THE PIONEERS just before Gabby comes out to anounce that he was voted in for the new sheriff? It starts out,
I was glad I was born,
In the heart of the west,
I can't remember any more. Does anyone have these lyrics? |

The West is in My Soul
I’m glad I was born in the heart of the west.
The west is in my soul.
I’m glad that I’m livin’ where life’s at its best,
The best old ranges roll.
Because I’m up with the lark at the break of each dawn,
I ride till the sun turns gold.
In the sky he always was and he always will because
The west is in my soul!
Lordy, but I’m feelin’ mighty happy.
Do you wonder why I feel this way?
Everywhere I turn my eyes, the West is.
That is why I’m here to say…
I’m glad I was born in the heart of the west.
The west is in my soul.
I’m glad that I’m livin’ where life’s at its best,
The best old ranges roll.
Because I’m up with the lark at the break of each dawn,
I ride till the sun turns gold.
In the sky he always was and he always will because
The west is in my soul!
I’m up with the lark at the break of each dawn,
I ride till the sun turns gold.
In the sky he always was and he always will because
The west is in my soul!
These may not be the exact lyrics Roy sang, but they are the the lyrics to the original song, The West is in my Soul by Bob Nolan. |

It sounds right, Yellowrose13. Thanks so much! Would you happen to have the words to the song that Roy and the others sing in the line-cabin in Romance on the Range. |

The two songs were - When Pay Day Rolls Around, and - Tumbling Tumbweeds.
They recieved a HUGE ovation for their performance.

Did you know that Gary LeMaster, who was with the Sons of the Pioneers for 20+ years is a member of the High Riders as of last year? The Sons of the Pioneers play May to October at the Shepherd of the Hills outdoor theater in Branson, MO. Dale Warren is the residing veteran of the group. He has been a member since 1952.
By the way, the book is "Hear my Song, the story of the celebrated Sons of the Pioneers". The author is Ken Griffis. The RRDE gift shop did have a few copies but I don't see them on-line. You can find used ones on Amazon.com starting at $75. If you are a fan of the SOP this book is the bible. 232 pages of facts, figures, and biographies. I believe it was last published in 1996. |
