THE UNITED REPUBLI OF TANZANIA MINISTRY OF HEALTH TANZANIA FOOD AND DRUGS AUTHORITY (TFDA) COSMETICS PRODUCTS CONTAINING PROHIBITED INGREDIENTS The Tanzania Food and Drug Authority (TFDA) is informing manufacturers, importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers of cosmetics and general public that section 88 (a) of Tanzania Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act, 2003 prohibits the manufacture, sell, supply or distribution of cosmetics that contain prohibited ingredients which may harm or cause injury to the users under normal conditions of use. In view of this, the following ingredients are prohibited to be included in any cosmetic preparation to be sold in the Tanzania:- 1. Bithionol 2. Hexachlorophene 3. Mercury compounds 4. Vinyl chloride 5. Zirconium – containing complexes in aerosol products 6. Halogenated salicylanilides (di-, tri- metabromsalan and tetrachlorosalicynilide) 7. Chloroquinone and its derivatives 8. Steroids in any proportions 9. Chloroform 10. Chlofluorocarbon propellants (fully halogenated chlorofluoroalkanes) in cosmetic aerosol products 11. Methyelene chloride The general public is hereby warned that the use of any of the following listed cosmetic products may cause injury or harm the users because they have been identified to contain one or more of the above prohibited ingredients. The Authority requires all the manufactures, importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers of cosmetics to make sure that, they are only engaged with cosmetic products which do not contain any of the above listed ingredients and should not be engaged with any of the below listed cosmetic products. Furthermore importation into the country and manufacture of the below listed cosmetic products is prohibited.
