scoob So i realized that during the week i have tons of energy and I feel completely normal. However, I've noticed that if/when I decide to sleep a little late on the weekends, or I have a day off during the week - if I lay around a little bit to long it ruins me for the rest of the day... I'm completely exhausted and can't get back my energy. Does anyone else have experience with this on methadone... If I start of being active, then no problem i'm active. but if I lay around when I'm not at work - i'm tired for the rest of the day and can't get out of the slump.... any ideas?

mpvt Oh yes, I'm very active from morning until early evening. If I sit around too long on say a saturday morning then I'm screwed for the day.Thats methadones sedating effect taking over. This is why I always tell newbies to stay or get as active as possible 1) because your methadone works better when your producing endorphin's and 2)you won't turn into a lazy slob if you stay active.I don't understand why the clinics don't inform there patients as soon as they start that they have to stay active.
Anyway I do get lazy if I don't get moving. It's just one of those things you have to be aware of when you start taking methadone...Have a good one....Dave

draco Greetings,
I stay on the go all day long. The one thing that will stop me cold is relaxing if only for a few minutes. I have to keep myself moving along.. I dread long drives. I used to drive up the coast for work all the time. I now fly most of the time. I have energy to spare then. I fold up like a cheap suit after 8pm...

whiskers I was tired all the time when my dose was high, 210 mg. Now that I'm down to 50 I ONLY sleep at night, like regular people! I used to sleep all day and then be able to sleep all night, crazy! That's why I gained so much weight, I wasn't doing anything! I make sure I walk every day and try to stay busy.

scoob Yeah the thing is I'm not really a newbie, am I? I've been on methadone for close to 5 months now. So what your saying Dave exactly proves my point... When I'm active during the week because of work - I'm fine and feel great... However, on the weekends if I sleep a little too late in the morning i find it difficult to get moving... I think it's also because I'm tired from the work week... Some of it might not have anything to do with the methadone... Thanks for the responses....

whiskers I would say your a newbie, only 5 months is NOT long at all! It took me a year before I was stable on my dose. But, everybody is different.

minky hey scoob. im with ya. it sucks being tired. i found the same, i have to be acitive. and when i first get to work, i am. but then in the middle of the day, i have to sit and make calls. and i get so tired, i practically fall asleep sitting up. so what i do, whether at work, or after being to sedate at home for too long, is excersise. maybe its cheesy and awful sounding, but it works wonders. i found these in a fitness magazine,it was called four excersises to rev you up. so when i get all sluggish and i dont want to be, i start doing them . it usually only takes one, but they feel so good i usually do two. also, i used to do alot of coke. and i was used to being able to do whatever because of it. and not having it, its weird to find how much rest and sleep a persong actually NEEDS. so... i hope this suggestion is helpful.

Maronne I can totally relate to all these experiences. You guys are SO MUCH BETTER people than I am though. I've NOT wanted to "MAKE" myself do anything anymore!! I'm very stubborn about it - and it takes a MAJOR CRISIS to get me to move an inch.

I'm just terrible right now - and it's MY FAULT!

I admire you for working hard all week Scoob. Is it really that terrible to just relax one day a week?? Can you dedicate one weekend day to just chillin??? I don't think I could handle not having ONE day a week to just do nothing or whatever. I used to always be on the go - but I've burnt myself out from it.

scoob Whiskers - if you are talking about how long it takes to get stable and that determining whether or not I'm a newbie - then it's definitely a no.... I got stable after three weeks of being on methadone.... I feel great on my dose and yes it depends on each individual.... Thanks for everyone who understands where I'm coming from... It helps to know that a lot of others feel the same way I do at times... Although I have to say - this weekend I had tons of energy and wasn't tired at all - even after sleeping a little late.... Oh yeah and the exercise idea is great... i highly reccomend that - i've been working out all my life.. i stopped when I was heavy into heroin but now being on MMT I go to the gym 3-4 times a week.... Definitely helps to boost the endorphins
