Topie: Editing signatures
August 5th, 2007 09:55 PM
Nappyme This hasn't happened yet, and I hope it doesn't ever have to happen, but can I edit my member's signatures and avatars?

mizwings Unfortunately not at this stage. Admin has no access to their members profiles to edit it. As I understand it, the only way you can edit signatures or members avatars is to delete their profile totally.

internetchick You can clear their profile and avatar.

ETA: Sorry, I see mizwings gave the same answer(I think, unless she meant deleting the person from your board entirely). There is a script to make a default avatar for those who don't choose one, so maybe that would work for now. You could clear their profile and avatar and then they wold just use the default.

Nappyme ^^^ Thanks mzwings. Didn't think so. Internetchick, thanks. I did find the default avatar script a couple of months ago. I like it. However, I have several members who obviously did something incorrect when they post their avatar so now all they have is the little box with the red x showing where their graphic should. It annoys the heck out of me. Guess I could ask them to fix it, however, I just wanted to go in and clear their avatar info so that the default one could show through.

Guess I'll just have to go ahead and ask them to fix it, or clear it out. Pet peeve on my part, but jeeze it seems to me they'd get sick of looking at the little box with the red x.

Least of my worries though with this community so I'll live.

Anti Paul I just wonder if maybe it's possible to manupulate the "Change Username Or Any Text" script in such a fashion that it could used to edit someone's signature?

for example, let's say a person on your board has questionable text or an unwanted link in their sig. you install the "Change Username" script (found in th Script Index) and then carefully follow the directions. except not changing a username, instead you'd enter the bad signature and replace it wth an edited version.

it might be a theory worth trying on a TEST BOARD before installing it on your main board.

Nappyme ^^^Ok... so on my test board, I would register as Jane Doe user entering a signature. Then try manipulating the script in the fashion you mentioned in your post above.

Q? Where do I find this script to play around with it? Where's it located?

that's alright, most people just ignore me all together (LOL)

I truly hope my theory will help you. and I believe it will.

first, install the script on your TEST BOARD, then get used to how it is designed to work. try replacing usernames first.

after you become comfortable with the principals of the script, then try to edit a sig.

Nappyme Thanks. I'll let you know how it works out. Not a huge priority at this point but as always, I 'preciate the help cause one of these days I'm sure it will come in handy.
