| Topie: Getting rid of skin |

When I first started, I used the same green skin that is used on this board. I'm very, very ready for a change, but can't get rid of it. Is there any way I can do so, w/o simply changing to another skin?

You can custimize it yourself, using new backgrounds, gradients, etc. Otherwise, the simplest way is to simply change to a diffent skin. |

I don't know where to do the customizing. Can you help me? I only was able to change the menu bar and title bar. |

Go to Control Panel>Images, and you can change the buttons and such.
Go to Contol Panel>Style>Edit Style and you can change the Menu/Title Bars, the background and other things. Take some time to look at it and see where everything is.
Check out the tutorial section or the Tips & Tricks section here, and see if there is anything that can help you there with learning how to change different images and such. New tutorials and such get added periodically, so if it's not there now, it might be later.
We always recommend creating a test board to test things like this out on, so you don't "blow up" your regular board.

You could hit the reset button. I would back up all your templates first, and make sure you know how to put everything back the way you wanted it. If you have made very little modifications this won't be a big deal. |

I set up a trial board and I can change the background there. But when I tried changing it on the board that has a skin, you can't see the background. Does the skin cover it? The same thing happens when I personalize the header. It doesn't show up on the real message board, although I see it on the trial. Grrr! |

hmmmm...are you making sure that you put the URL in the right place for the background and then saving changes? Not sure why it's doing that otherwise. I don't think the skin you are using should affect that, but I don't know for certian. I'm sure that someone else will come along to offer suggestions about what might be happening. |

Yes, I v-e-r-y carefully followed the instructions from the link you provided. I would probably question myself, except that it worked perfectly on the practice board and I tried more than once on the real one. Same results. |

I figured you had.....just was trying to think of why it wasn't doing it properly. Sounds like, if someone can't help you, that maybe you might need to just "RESET" the board from the Control Panel, and see if you can make it work.

Since I am having such great success (Ahem!), please reasure me that if I hit "reset" it will only rest the layout and not affect the posts.

It won't affect any posts that have been made. Another Admin hit the reset and it only affected the look of the forum. All our posts still remained. At that point I forget if we had any scripts up yet, but I do remember that we still had all our posts. I believe it was just a matter of picking the logo and other images again. All of our smilies were the same. I would still back up everything to text files so that you can put everything back. |

It should in NO way affect the posts, only the layout. It will affect any scripts you may have added to your board, as in it will delete them. So, save copy of any codes (scripts) you have added, to be able to add them back more quickly.
If by some remote chance it has any other affect, immediatly send PETER a pm with your boardURL, the Username you are using and an explanation of what occured, and what you were doing when it occured. |
