1 of our members somehow keeps getting deleted from our members list-she's a high poster and on everyday-so it's not like she hasn't been on for 60 days-then we finally got her re-registered and she's off our member list AGAIN today-is it possible that somehow someone can "hack" into our control panel area and keep deleting this person knowing that it wil upset us or is something else happening that i don't know about or know how to correct??????
i finally had her re-registered after trying a whole day yesterday ----and then she told me she was on for a little while and then "poof" she wasn't a member again
PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME!! is it possible to have the control area changed in case there is someone that knows how to get in it??? that's the only thing i can think that this could be from unless there is some glitch somewhere-----but it doesn'tr happen fr anyone else on the board-just her :( |

This is what I would do until hearing from Peter. Who all has access to your control panel? ..... in other words, who has ADMIN status on your board? If it is only people who you know 100% can be trusted, get them to change all their passwords. If you cant get them all to do it ASAP, go to control panel, user administration and change their admin status. BE sure you do not change YOUR ADMIN STATUS THO. I would create another account as a back up ADMIN in case for some reaon YOU cant acess your admin control panel
I PERSONALLY would create another account with admin status that only I know the password to and disable all other admins.
Having a SiteMeter to check on activity would also be a good idea.

we do have a sitemeter but i don't even know how to use it or what it is? there are 2 other ppl that are admins that i totally trust 100% b/c i was NOT the originator of the MB and they invited me very nicely to become an admin along with them
i'm a bit confused as to what u wrote ---do u mean we can change the password of how to get into control panel? if so-how? this just has me so perplexed and upset-please also tell me what the sitemeter does and how i can use this and will it help in figuring out this prob? |

ok, what you do is. Those who are ADMINS change their passwords by going into their profile.
The sitemeter monitors all visits to your website. You can get the IP addresses, dates, times that people have visited your forum. If you monitor it carefully you may be able to trace who is causing your problems.
You will have to log into sitemeter and check the information there. |

oh ok-thanx a lot-i already changed my password, now i have to wait for the others to change theirs-----i also now understand your site meter but if it is a person whom i strongly suspect-i wouldn't know their isp anyway |

OK, if you dont know their ip address, there is other information like their location. |
|

| portyporty |
You would if they have posted. |
|
|

they aren't members of our board for these types of reasons, so they won't be posting
i could have sworn we had sitemeter but maybe 1 of the admins took it away-i know that some ppl on dialup have probs when certain things are added-i'm still searching b/c i KNOW i've seen it on our MB before |

They dont have to post for sitemeter to pick them up. Sitmeter monitors visits to your site and will log the details.
To check if you have sitemeter have a look for the code in your footer. There should also be an icon at the bottom of the page under your statistics box.
If you dont have it installed, then click on sitemeter in my previous post and follow the instructions. You will have to install the code on your board in order for the visits to be logged.
If you want any help with this, send me a pm here and I will help you get it installed. |

Have you contacted peter yet? |
|
|
| elphaba888 |
you have been such a great supporter---i am going to look in footer for the sitemeter but if we no longer have it-i found one and have copied it to put in my footer
as for reaching peter-i don't know how and is this problem strictly a "site meter" type problem or can it be something else occuring i.e-when the person re-registered-she used the same username----could that be "spit out" b/c it had been deleted and does she need to use new name or could this be something totally different than anything????
thanx mizwings-you'v been super so far-now i'm gonna add the sitemeter if not already on and then i'll check back to see if you can tell me how to reach peter |
|
|
| elphaba888 |
i just added the sitemeter and now i shall wait to read more help but at least these things were a start-i changed my password-have to get the other 2 to do the same thing and maybe i i ever get this member back-this will help stop it |

You are most welcome.
Ok, have you added the html code to the footer of your website? Good Luck, I hope you get it sorted. Unfortunately there are idjits who have no life, so they like to cause trouble for people.

That was my thought!! |
|
|
| RoyC |
And this is the very reason why you should be very careful wth whom you share control of your board with... |
|
|
| BluAngelGrrl |
This is why I say that:
1. You should have only yourself and a second account you make as an admin. (The second account, in case you accidently disable, delete or ban your first account--IT's HAPPENED!).
2. That Excoboards should have something I've seen on several other message board forums, where the originating admin (Board creator/owner) has the ultimate powers, including deleting the board and other admins, and the secondary admins cannot delete the board creator, or the board at all. It makes it safer to have other admins with that little security measure. You can actually assign them as many or as few "powers" as you like. |
