Topic: Can my forum auto-reject Yahoo and Hotmail registrations?

Kodo Unfortunately, due to former problems with trolling and spamming, my board now rejects any new account that is registered with a web-based account
including, but not limited to, Hotmail and Yahoo. While most web-based e-mail is legitimate, recurrent spammers and trolls were able to easily create many accounts with it. Rejecting such registrations was a very difficult decision but since we came up with this policy, we've had no problems with spam or trolling.

Currently we e-mail each new attempted registration with a web-based e-mail account and ask them to re-register with a fixed ISP account. It's very time-consuming. Is there a way to set up our board so that all such registrations are automatically sent such an email or see a message that tells them to use other accounts?

Thanks.

TK-7771 You do realize that some people do pay to use Hotmail and Yahoo accounts? Some technically, that is their primary email account.

Yes, and that was one more factor that made the decision very difficult. We had enormous problems with spam, harrassment and hateful trolling and were losing our membership to it. The problems disappeared with the new policy and posting is up.

Kodo That was considered, and so far the change in policy has attracted and retained more quality members.

Does anyone know if an automatic message can be sent to those attempting to register with Hotmail and Yahoo accounts?
