Hello, sorry to bother you (grovel) I know you're busy (grovel a bit more). One of my members sent this to me tonight, can anybody help?
'I can usually get to the main menu but when I click on any of the subforums (subfora?), or sometimes on any of the threads, I get a completely blank page which no amount of refreshing or back-tracking will remove. I've adjusted my cookies as instructed but it has made no difference. Any ideas?'

Tell your member to CLEAR his/her cookies. If that doesn't work, let us know with your board URL. So we can take a look... |

Okay thanks. I'll get back to you. |

I've gotten the blank page a few times. It's usually a temporary thing, and it's apparently not always blank for everyone. |

Everybody else reports the board is behaving normally. Only one person is having trouble. We do have the odd glitch but, as you say, they normally clear up on their own. |

Well, if he/she is the only one it is user side. |

Hello, sorry, member is still having problems (see below) As I said nobody else is reporting any trouble; if it is 'user side' is there anything else I can suggest she tries?
'Hello, Lurker. I've cleared my cookies and done everything you suggested and I'm still having trouble here. I get blank screens, I post messages which don't appear... I'm beginning to think that no one likes me (don't all rush at once to agree).' |

troubleshoot the issue by having the member re-register again under a slightly different username. then watch to see if they still suffer the same problem.
if they do encounter a similar situation but nobody else reportsany such problem then it's safe to assume the one member's system is to blame instead of Excoboard.

Trying that now, thanks, Anti.
I 'do' think it may well be her system and not the board itself but her system sounds pretty bog standard. No weird browser either just IE. |
|

| Lurker |
I just sent her to another board and she reports she's having the same problems there. Anybody got any ideas why her system might not like Exco? |

Usually there is nothing else you can do but just reregister under a different (similar) name or delete the members name and have he/she register again! |
|

Hello, just tried a reregister and afraid it didn't work.
Thanks anyway. |

Have her clear her cookies and temp files. Ask her if her browser accepts Javascript. It sounds to me as if she needs to do some pc maintance. Ask her what she uses for antivirus and if her browser accepts cookies.
Do you have any scripts added to your board that might be blocked by her browser? Once when I added an external linking script to one of my test boards, my antivirus program didn't like it and wouldn't let me view my board until I made some adjustments to my own settings. If you post a link to your board or send it by pm to one of the mods, we can help you better to determine if it is something you may have done that has caused your poster to have problems.

Thanks Catchow. I have one more thing I want her to try, if that doesn't work will PM a link pronto. Dont want to bother you good Exco folk until I've ran out of options.
Thanks again to all. |

Still haven’t solved this one. A moderator has looked at my board and had no trouble navigating it (thanks Seb) but my member still can’t use it. She's cleared files, cookies, turned off her firewall, anti virus etc. I have also changed the skin on my test board and sent her there, she still had problems. It was suggested I tell her to change her browser but I think this might be a bit drastic just to navigate one forum. I sent her to a server two board and she had no problems there at all. Can server one boards be moved onto server two? Is that possible, or is that, too, a bit on the drastic side?
Any further suggestions how to help her will be very gratefully received.
Thanks.

Im stumped here. It happens to any server 1 board she goes to? |

I confess I haven't sent her off to very many. Can anybody recommend some nice server one forums I can send her to, so I know for sure it’s server one she's having trouble with. |

S1 is S1, and S2 is S2 :) I don't think it's appropriate for us to construct a list of forums to visit (LOL) just politely ask her to join Excoboard Support (which is "nice" and on S1)
obviously we are saddened that your member is experiencing technically difficulty. but it appears that this boils down to a problem outside of Excoboard.
without me intending to sound cruel about the issue, I'm afraid it is something beyond our control. five Super Moderators have already responded with everything we know. your final option is to send a consise PM including all relevant information to Peter (Excoboard developer)
best fortune to you and the member of your board. if you ever learn how to rectify this situation, PLEASE post a follow up. (thanks)

...Maybe she should get a new computer or something. Try a new Thread script. There's a Separate Posts Script you ought to try. Maybe something is wrong with your Thread template. Hey, it happened to me. It could be their browser. She should get a new browser. I suggest FireFox or Slimbrowser. Both are incredible. I guess all she would need is a Tech-up. (A hardware/software update)

Lurker, here's the one last final idea that I could come up with. it will seem wacky, but it's worth a shot.
ask her to visit http://www.skweezer.net then type in the URL of your Excoboard. mayube she can naviate your board that way.
I believe iti s still a FREE site, she probably does not need to register if she doesn't want to. but I think thisis a consideration that might just help her until a better solution comes along.
keep us posted on any progress :) |
|

Thanks. I'll let you know how she goes on with it. |

admittedly, it's rather extreme, but it may help for now.
good luck! :) |

I had a go and it is a bit odd but I think you could get used to it. It's definitely better than nothing. Just hope she can use it herself. Still waiting to hear from her. |

I have one member who currently relies upon that service to access my board. (but this member of mine is utilizing an outdated piece of equipment to go online.
yes, it is odd - but I'm hoping it shall help your friend stay in your group until something better can be discovered..
Skweezer is designed for a completely different use. but I think it might be handy in this rare situation. |

It works!!!. Sorry it took so long to tell you but the member with the posting problem has RSI and so hasn't been able to use her computer for a while.
Thanks Anti Paul for the suggestion!! |
