portyporty Is it possible to stop people who have been banned from reading the board/posting offensive messages in guest books and PMing members, banning user names and IPs doesn't seem to get the message through to one d*ckhead.

fin24000 Well when my forum got stolen and IP ban is all it took, but if they are on dile up the IP is new every time they re-dile so just put the first few numbers (as long as all the members are not from the same town) in and that shude get them.

Aaron.

P.S. as soon as you know you got'em then take there acount of your list.

sdn If you use the first few numbers to ban them (64.125, for example), you are probably going to ban either most of an ISP or most of a region.

playscharvel porty porty

Go to your control panel...open forum administration.....click 'edit' on each of your forums...in the section labelled 'Access permission'..look on the right hand side..

you have two rows of boxes to place ticks in..one titled 'can view forum'...the other marked 'can post in forum'

un tick the boxes on BOTH sides in the 'everyone (including unregistered)' section

and place ticks in the boxes marked registered, moderators, super moderators and authorized...once done...click submit:)

you will have to do this on each forum section you have...but it will stop any unregistered members reading your site:)

this should also stop any pm's being sent

also...another tip...i have moved my memberlist link into the actual thread part of the site...this takes some html understanding..if your not the best at html...i would advise that you pm your members and tell them to set their email address to private in their profile

as for guest book abuse...i have simply disabled it...this you can do in the 'feature settings' part of your control panel

hope i have helped in some small way:)

portyporty Thanks playscharvel I have done most of that, as in locking forums etc, but as it is a community forum we really should let unregistered users read whats happening in the community.By allowing some guest books it lets me get his IP when he posts [I use site meter] I dont suppose there is any real solution to stopping him. Locking the board and disabling some features ruins it for genuine users. What I need are some Navy Seals.

playscharvel lol...navy seals ...ok porty...how about having a 'guest' area?...where anybody can post?

as for the isp blocking?...i dont rate it much..as others have said...dial up eliminates that option...but anyone half decent with a pc can rotate isp's anyway..or just use a proxy server

as for ruining it for regular users?...have to disagree friend..our excoboard current post count is "A total of 265935 posts have been made"

we have no trolls...no guestbook abuse...no malicous emailing/pm'ing etc..just a good friendly site:)

hope you get it all sorted:)

nah, you need a good set of sights on your shotgun

I can't believe this numpty is still wasting his time with your site. He obviously has no life at all

disabling the guestbooks might be a good idea though - as not very many people use them anyway.
and I think most members of the board have set their emails to private because of this eejit.

hi portyporty :) fortunately most of your problems have been addressed by other helpful Excoboard users who already replied. please consider what I'm about to suggest for the "offensive messages" portion of your recent melee.

you can easily censor out vulgarities by fully utilizing the options inside your Control Panel or it may be well worth checking into a script written by HellSpawn (see a thread in Script Repository) for "Change Username Or Any Text"

if you do learn the identity of this one maladjusted individual who is attempting to disrupt your board, then I strongly urge you to report him to Peter as soon as possible.

good luck to you

portyporty thank you one and all.

Hello Debbi, no his home computer and laptop do not change, its only when he goes onto a rig it changes and then the minute he posts something in a guest book we get his IP, one reason we have left some guest books available is so we can keep track of him, when he is abusive from a rig computer, we report it to the rig master as per advice given. We have some nine IPs banned and they have all been used by him over the past two years, we closed down the Novogate board and moved here because there was more control.
We do know his identity and his behaviour is worse off the board than on.

Members do tend to get heated on the forum when discussing issues but at the end of the day everyone is after the same things for our community and most of it is hot air anyway.Apologies for bringing this to the support forum I do realise there is no easy solution, now where did I put that shotgun,Debbi you did give it back didnt you.:D

Debbi lmao, hang on, will return it once I've shot the neighbours lol

feel free to leave my guestbook open, (touch wood) he seems to have left me alone since the altered PM debacle.

Your missus was telling me all about his offline antics, I know its no consolation but, what goes around - comes around
