Ok... I've been busy making modifications to my index. One of the enhancements I made was to the statistics area at the bottom of the board. I ran across a script to create a custom information center and I love it. Then today I noticed that the post count was missing. So I go to put it in but when I hit preview, I realize that nothing from the index thread displays in the preview window. The only thing I see is my header banner and my footer banner and some associate links below that and my site meter. Nothing else in between those two items. Any ideas as to what could be blocking it from showing up in preview.
The live board however, looks and functions just fine. |

My " Index Preview " looks this same way after I inserted a Cbox, so if you inserted one of these, that's prob why. |

Some of the script changes don't show in the preview for some reason.

^^^Ah. Hmmm. No, no chat box. But it probably is one of the last scripts that I installed, one of which allowed me to change user names. I'll remove it to see if that's the culprit. It was fine until these last round of enhancements so I'll just have to see which script is causing the prob. |

Yea, i'd say something you've added in there has caused it. I mentioned Cbox, because after all the changes that i've made in that template, I am cerntain that Cbox is what caused mine. Sorry that wasn't more helpfull..... |

Nappyme, have you found out where the problem is? We'd love to know for future reference. TIA |

Mod 2 no not yet. Thanks for asking. It's probably something I won't get a chance to thoroughly investigate until this weekend. .
Right now, thankfully, it doesn't interfere with the functionality or look of my board. So that makes it a non-urgent issue that can keep 'till I can get to it, but I will update everyone as I troubleshoot and look for a reason for this is happening.
@ bunk. Thanks for the input. It did get me to thinking about what I installed. Seems like whenever I make board enhancements, I also get the pleasure of undoing something that I didn't intend to happen. Guess that's just the nature of this kind of stuff.
I just hope it isn't the new custom information center. I spent all last weekend working on it and it looks soooo good. I'll be really disappointed if that's what it is.
Joy...

Your welcome.......
I left the Cboxs I installed, and you may want to leave your info center as well......... It's just a trade off, you just wont have the preview of changes made to that template. Now I just " save changes " and preview it on the board, if I dont like it, I go back and reverse or tweak the change. |

Nappyme this is an very good example of why having a Test Board is so important IMO. Better to blow up a Test Board than your active board.
I'll be interested to find out where the conflict is as I'm sure you will be too. |

I have a testboard and tried it out there first. Didn't have a problem. Sooooo, not sure why I'm having issue on my real board. |

You have exactly the same thing on both boards? That's odd. Good luck finding out what's happening. |

I don't know that everything is apple to apples cause I didn't know anything about creating a test board when I first created my site. But in this instance, I previewed everything on the real board even after I've tested on the test board, and there's no way that I would have saved any script if it had messed with the preview. Sooo, whatever's going on, the glitch with the preview function happened after I saved the changes and looked at it on my real board.
My gut is that it's the last script I put in, but I really don't have time to mess with it right now to find out. |

Bummer. It was the custom information center script. I took it out and replaced it with the default Statistics center and walaah, my preview was restored.
Here's the script I'm talking about. Custom Information Center
Has anyone ever used this?
This sucks. I really like this script.

I havn't personally used it, but if I liked the info center, I would keep it, and just not have the preview........ But that's just me / how I would do it.......... |

Ok...it's something that I put into the table when I customized it that's causing the preview problem, not the design itself. I deleted my customized version and put the script as is into the index and the preview reappeared. Soooo, I'm going to have to redo it and preview every single change to weed out the culprit.
Uggggghhhh! But it will be worth it.
Bunk, I'm too chicken not to have the preview function. |

Well I'm glad fer ya...but ha! I'm not as fearless as you. But I have good news...I fixed it! Yea for me! Woo hoo! I still don't know what caused the conflict. But oh well...the important thing is that I fixed it and it didn't take as long I thought it would either.
I'm turning cart wheels...well not really but if I could I would! |

Well...I'm so tickled with the outcome of my new Info Center that I thought I share the end result. My knowledge of scripting and code may be far below rudimentary (is that how you spell it?) but some how I seem to be figuring some of this stuff out. Anyhoo here it is. Ha! It might inspire someone else to try it.

Although I love it, I do have one question. In the far right and left columns of the table, I have two-word links that I wanted to prevent from being two lines. So, I used an _ between the two words. Is there something I can do to prevent the words from creating two lines without using an underscore? |

I'm not sure exactly sure about your question so will leave it for someone that's more familiar than I to answer it. |

hello Nappyme
I'm not sure if i totally understand what ya mean .
but if HAIR_FACTS is just one link than all you need to do is remove the _ and just leave a space
now if HAIR is one link and FACTS is another than you can add a | between the two
HAIR | FACTS
or
</div> so that it looks like
HAIR
FACTS
but like you said you don't want two lines
if its 2 different links than i would just
go with
HAIR | FACTS
sorry i don't know how to make a space between the two without using something like _ - / ... |

Thanks Mod 1 and Mod 2!
---------------------------------------
Ok... let me see if I can explain this a little better. Each one of these is only one link:
Nappturology_101, cNapp_Albums, Shrink_Pics, Tutorials and Haircare Tips. Same thing for all the two-word terms in the right-hand table as well.
As you can see, Haircare Tips is two words and there is no _ between the two and it all stays on one line. I think that's because Nappturology_101 is the longest term in the table. But if I didn't put the _ in that term, it would display on two lines. All of the two-link terms did. I don't know, I'm not explaining this very well. It's like the table forces them into two lines
e.g.,
Shrink
Pics
without the _ between the two words. I'm probably not making any sense. Hopefully someone will come along and figure out what I'm talking about.
Once again, this is more of an aesthetic thing, a nice to have as opposed to a have to have. If I have to keep it this way, that's ok. |

Hi Nappyme,
Try html non-breaking space code. Replace the space with this:
& n b s p ;
Only don't put the spaces that I added so it would show here. Just type the first word, then the code, then the second word with no spaces.
Hope it works!

On another note. Bummer. I have the pop up pm notification at the bottom of my index page. It was working fine until I put in the info center. There's a script in there that tells you how many PMs you have waiting. I wonder if that script is somehow interfering with the PM pop up script.
However, I better not attempt to fix anything @ 2 in the morning so I'll have to do it later today. If it turns out it conflicts, I'll take it out of the info center and do something else with that space. Maybe board announcements or something. |
