Topic: Help please?

~Bianca~ Can someone walk me through the steps I take to reformat my hard drive? I'm not sure what all I need to save and exactly how I go about doing that? To a disk? No idea. Could someone help me out please? I'll be forever grateful.. You see for some reason I can't view any java scripting. Can't play any online games...nothing. I've been through all of the trouble shooting and it doesn't work. I've tried deleting Java from my add or remove programs and reinstalling it, but it won't even let me go as far as deleting it. :sigh: Am I a lost cause? I've tried finding a fix at the Sun Java site, but they don't have one either.

Catchow As far as saving goes, burn everything you want to keep onto cds or floppies. I have never gotten the repair function to work (repair console I think it's called) Then plug in your windows cd and be bored to death will it installs. It tells you what to do and don't believe when it says 38 minutes that you can run out for a burger. It will be asking you questions during that time. The worst part of reformatting is getting all your updates though. It sounds like you could have gotten a worm or virus that messed up java for you. I had that happen to me once. After you get the cd installed, install your internet software if necessary and go to windows update first. Then install your virus protection and the go get java and macromedia and all that other stuff. You are much better off with a clean install than trying to save much of that stuff.

Have tou tried system restore? If you can go back far enough to when it was working right you might be able to skip the format for a while.

seb_thib_55 I know how to reformat, I read this guide to make sure everything was correct and it is. I didnt feel like typing all of it :) http://www.resnet.uni.edu/docs/reformatxp.html

Please be aware that reformatting can take a couple hours and you NEED the windows XP cd. Also please make sure u have a Product Ket. Otherwise you can run into problems in the middle of reformatting.

shellspeare Before reformatting check the settings in your internet options, the on/off java feature is in there.
