Hi BS and others. I really wonder how much base capital you start with ?
Really surprised to see you exiting in few cents up or down. and doing it time and again.

Its ok if you dont want to answer it :) but with 15/20k base - i dont seem to get it :(

I doubt the top dogs here have less than 25K equity/cash, hence they can trade intraday as many times as they want (ie: scalping for just a few cents, but when aggregated overtime, it's much better than swinging with less risk involved). I'm one of the lap dogs under 25K, so I have to swing it and it's highly risky.... something I don't recommend doing (yet I still do it). :P

BullDog Ran a day trade FAS 28.59 to 28.89

wanlorn Emma stopped out again at 9.03. Double stop day really sucks but thats how the cookie crumbles.

SPXSwing still in TNA as well as IRASwing in UPRO.

When I scalp I tend to go in with 2K shares of FAS or 1K of TNA. I tend to not scalp bears but for every rule there is the rare exception. IE FAZ yesterday.

zenmaster Thanks. Makes sense now :)

Yep, that sounds about right for me as well... I very very very very rarely scalp the bears
January 7th, 2011 03:33 PM
Black Swan I can't trade the bear- just can't!
Out of TNA at 72.98 on one lot, 72.48 on another. Let me run a check through IRA accts to see if I can get rid of something..

As long as you close your positions by EOD, no interest.
January 7th, 2011 03:43 PM
andy0323 Wow... FAS pared a considerable amount of losses today.

You replied for me 888..
Guess that's another reason that has helped me be disciplined in closing positions EOD.

Black Swan TNA's that I bought today would have made a lot more if I didn't sell any and held till now.. but then it is hard not to worry about the sudden slide.
added: TNA went from 73.48 to 73.21 to 73.06 to 73.15 all within secs while I typed.

Yea, that way I can use my other funds for swing trades. I have a separate account for longs

I'm not really worried about the interest its the psychology of making a bet that I can't cover with cash on hand. Sure the odds of a 50% drop intraday might as well be 0 and even if it did there would be so many other issues that the only thing that matters is who has the most ammo.

I guess if I wanted to play both TNA and FAS it could be usefull but I tend to fixate on a single stock when scalping.

Besides 3x is plenty of movement usually and I don't have to trade everyday.

I have seperate accounts for all my strategies. Its easier to keep track of things that way.

Me too. Otherwise it gets too confusing.
Usually my swing trade positions are in IRA.

Overnights, anyone?
January 7th, 2011 04:03 PM
wanlorn I have 2 strategies holding over the weekend.
SPX is holding TNA from 71.04 and IRA is holding UPRO from 209.25.

January 7th, 2011 04:11 PM
andy0323 I'm holding VXX overnight. I think I bought it too soon.

membar Hi All. Looks like I missed the party today. I wasn't able to get to the computer on time to set things up and when I logged on an hour later and saw FAS at 28.65 and falling, I started to freak out for my FKOS FAS positions which didn't have a stop. I took a deep breath and decided not to sell at the current price and when I later found out that FAS was at 28.25, I shook my head in horror thinking of all those lost profits. I later found out that FAS closed at 29.00, then Emma double-stopped and that one of my other strategies wouldn't have made much money, so I'm thankful that the damage was contained. One of the sucky things about automated trading is when things go wrong and you can't set things up on time.
Enjoy the weekend, everyone.
