ISA_Coder Starting it off.
Any EMMA info?
September 10th, 2010 09:38 AM
membar I decided to go ahead and run Emma against a real account with a small amount of money. She hasn't done anything except print this:

20100910
H = 774.30
L = 761.20
C = 768.20
P = 767.90
R1 = 774.60
R2 = 781.00
R3 = 781.00
S1 = 761.50
S2 = 754.80
S3 = 741.70

I don't think she decides whether it's a bull or bear day until 9:45.
September 10th, 2010 09:46 AM
membar She added this:

767.637777777777
Bull Day P - S1

Go FAS, I guess. She hasn't taken a trade yet.

My Emma bought FAS @ 21.45 with a stop at 21.15.
September 10th, 2010 10:03 AM
ISA_Coder in FAS at 21.38, double condition stop to sell at market order if price goes above 21.59 or below 21.17. See you all later, time to do work stuff.
September 10th, 2010 10:04 AM
membar Check out RIG. Keeps on going up....
September 10th, 2010 10:09 AM
888nyc888nyc nice :)
September 10th, 2010 10:30 AM
wanlorn Membar I got the exact same results on my end. Also bought at 21.45.
September 10th, 2010 10:37 AM
membar Cool. Go FAS! Go RIG!

do you ever move the stop up manually? or perhaps use a trailing stop?
September 10th, 2010 10:42 AM
wanlorn My Emma sold 21.53 @ 10:43

I do when I do my random, discretionary trades, but not with strategies. In my experience, FAS and FAZ don't do well with trailing stops. Not using a trailing stop is for me the equivalent of adding to your position as it goes up, as described here:

I found moving the stop up hurt results more than it helped. I tried moving stop to buy after Fas broke through the gain setting. Emma would stop out often at no loss but would not get another entry signal till much later and miss a lot of gains vs going negative and then running up. I originally started with a 1% stop but found it too tight now I run 1.5%

+1. Try as I might, I could never get a trailing stop to work with any of the strategies I backtested.
September 10th, 2010 10:57 AM
wanlorn Membar I guess you will be in FAS till eod unless we turn really negative.

When Fas sold Rifin was between P and R1 indicating bear. Time of entry version of Emma bought FAZ there. Entering FAZ 13.61 @ 10:42 with stop @ 13.41.

Will see how it plays out.

Why did your Emma sell and mine didn't?

Gain setting. I have gain set to 1%. high since entry for FAS at time of negative cross was 21.67.

21.67 - 21.45 = 0.22
0.22 / 21.45 = 1.02%

A gain of 9% would mean FAS high since entry needs to hit 23.38 before an exit signal other than EOD will trigger.

Ah, so the gain setting doesn't mean the gain for which you unconditionally sell, it means that there had to have been a gain between buy time and the highest high before negative crossover that exceeds your gain setting?

Exactly as described in Rule 5 in the strategy. Gain = 0.5% was the original setting. This resulted in way to many trades and small profits but a really good win/loss ratio.
September 10th, 2010 11:13 AM
888nyc888nyc Not sure if this was possible but...
membar, can you add the paging to the bottom as well as the top?

Got it. I should really go back and memorize those rules.

I made you an Administrator, so knock yourself out. Usual "rules" apply (if you create a new subforum, make sure to only allow registered users to post to thwart spambots).

membar RIG is like a freight train today. Choo choo! It's nice to be on the right side of this kind of action for a change.

:) I found it annoying to have to keep going to the top screen to make sure there wasn't any new pages in the discussion. Hope everyone finds this helpful :)

Where did you find the setting? I looked around but couldn't find it.

BullDog The dog made some dough this morning, on the batch I had bought yesterday at 21.15. Many a times it pays to hold overnight. Can be done if u break up your working capital into lots, so then u can risk it.
