rings This was an interesting discussion on BYB. As Jimmy has been a topic around here, I thought it might be worth a few thoughts here:

You can read my post there, which I'll copy below.

rings Todd Jones
I, for one, was always hoping they’d give Jonesy a shot in the booth. He’s always been great in his media interactions, including his SN column. Casey would be fine also.

To editorialize a bit:
While Rod Allen has improved tremendously in his time in the booth, offering insight, creative catch phrases and genuine warmth, Jim Price is – forgive the directness – AWFUL. The only guy more annoying is the Hawk in Chicago.
He’s a total homer, repeats the same insights and phrases constantly, and blathers on about ‘68 as if he was something much more than a .174 hitting catcher who happened to be lucky enough to be a backup on a championship team. In contrast, you hardly ever hear Rod crow about ’84.
The best move they’ve made in over the past few years was taking away Price’s play-by-blay innings…they were becoming insufferable as he’d give almost no discription of the action, often sitting in silence while entire sequences were taking place as the listener could often hear cheering or action in the background….when he did speak, he’d say things like “he hit a bullet” over and over. In addition, his scoreboard show is rushed and breathless and almost painful to listen to.
I respect he’s a life-long Tiger, but I’ll be happy when his broadcasting days are done.

He does a servicable job on MLB Network.

Its been mentioned on this site before and by others, but I'd love to see them give Todd Jones a crack at the Tiger booth...I think he'd be great. He's funny, insightful and honest.

He doesn't have to say that though all he has to do is let his knees hit the floor and Krotchy's ready for him.

We had discussed it on the old site too, not just me. In fact, I forget who's idea it was originally, but it wasn't mine.
