I'd obviously disagree with the third base choice and the DH choice (Dmitri and Palmer should've both been first team), but a pretty interesting exercise.

TigersRoarin84 Krotchy and Sheff? Really? At least Krotcy has the (false) defense argument, what does Sheff have? He stunk. Period. Inge has the benefit of his competition being one year from Palmer (and not his best year) and his other competition being Eric Munson.

Thanks rings, it is a cool idea. Did C-Mo play a lot of right (and conversely Higgy a lot of left)? I'd rather see them try to use actual positions and how they played at them. (i.e. Guillen not being a SS from 2004-Present, only until 2006.)

rings Higgy played about even between LF & RF in his career. Palmer was better in 2000 than anything Inge has done, but Inge has been there so long that he's probably the choice no matter how crappy he's been. Fick had a very good year in '01 as a C, and is overlooked. White had a couple decent years for us, just couldn't stay healthy or throw hard enough to break glass.

Sheff is a terrible pick unless it was based on salary...Young, Thames, White all had better years as DH.

Well there sure is truth to the bolded. And I agree, Sheff as DH, even second team, let alone first, is awful.

Cornejo Crunch Good god. Rondell White couldn't throw from shallow leftfield to third base, Craig Monroe couldn't hit a curveball, even if he had Pedro Cerrano's voodoo magic and we're still paying Damion Easley's contract off. It goes to show you what Tiger baseball was before 2006.

rings There were actually some decent seasons throughout the decade (using just years 2000-2009). If I was picking, based on year and choosing a player only once, here's my team:

C - Pudge (2004) .334/19/86
LF - Higgy (2000) .300/30/102
CF - Granderson (2007) .302/23/74
RF - Maggs (2007) .363/28/139
3B - Palmer (2000) .256/29/102
SS - Guillen (2004) .318/20/97
2B - Polanco (2007) .341/9/67
1B - Miggy (2009) .324/34/103
DH - Dmitri (2003) .297/29/85
RH - Verlander (2009) 19-9/3.45
LH - Rogers (2006) 17-8/3.84
CL - Jonesy (2000) 42/3.52
Mgr - Leyland (2006)

2nd Team:
C - Robert Fick (2001) .272/19/61
LF - Rondell White (2004) .270/19/67
CF - Alex Sanchez (2003) .289/1/22
RF - Juan Gonzalez (2000) .289/22/67
3B - Inge (2006) .253/27/83
SS - Deivi Cruz (2000) .302/10/82
2B - Omar Infante (2004) .264/16/55
1B - Tony Clark (2001) .287/16/75 or Chris Shelton (2005) .299/18/59
DH - Randall Simon (2002) .301/19/82
RH - Steve Sparks (2001) 14-9/3.65
LH - Robertson (2004) 13-13/3.84
CL - Juan Acevedo (2002) 28/2.65
Mgr - Trammell (only because Garner was terrible)

rings Some of those are painful to admit (Juan Gone, Inge, Dmitri), but some are pretty surprising, considering the guys left off who really weren't very good (Pena, Monroe, Anderson, Bonderman). Others were just the best of the worst (Higgy, Sparks, Cruz, Acevedo, Infante)
