| The English D |
Anyone have opinions on this guy? Personally I'm a fan. Left handed bat, quick contact slap hitter. He's got great hustle. Obviously the power is an issue, but this team needs more OBP. Orlando Hudson would be a solid FA pickup for 2B but I am all for Rhymes getting a shot. Would be a good number 2 hitter as well. |

I don't know anything about him, but I love the name. Is that enough? |

As I've posted in a number of other threads, I like the guy aside from his haircut.
He swings to contact, plays good D, handles the bat well, hustles, does a lot of the little things that help teams win. (If Inge played like he does, I'd love him.)
While I have no doubt he'll start the year in Toledo, because Guillen and stones-for-hands Sizemore will get first crack at 2B, I also think he'll be up before June and more or less regular because Carlos will be done and Sizemore can't field the pill. |

I think the problem with Will is he isn't really prospect age. He is likely as good as he will ever be right now. |

Which is better than anyone else we have, IMO.
Keep in mind that our defense this year will be just north of putrid...we need another solid glove . |

I love it!
This is great stuff, some of my favorite lines:
Advantage: Rhymes. VCU sucks. Inge was a star there, for crissakes.
Advantage: Tinkerbell by default. Sizemore sucks on D like Jenna Jameson does on a D.
Advantage: Push. “Scrappy” is an annoying cartoon dog, not an evaluating tool for baseball players. Why must every white guy under 5’10 be labeled scrappy, pesky, a grinder, plucky, a sparkplug, peppery, a hustler, feisty, or a throwback? I don’t give a f-ck how dirty his uniform is. Did he get some hits? Did he move the runner over or, better yet, drive him in? I’m serious this time. Next post I see somewhere when they call Rhymes “scrappy”, I’m going to hunt that person down, remove their eye with an ice cream scoop, and piss into their empty, brain dead skull. |

Me too. I normally hate and avoid sports blogs, but this one is awesome. I'm a regular reader myself.
The college comparison - lol

I think Sizemore has potential and is young, he can work on his defense still, but he's a better offensive weapon than Rhymes, I think. http://www.upperdeckreport.com/news_article/show/89597?referrer_id=290721

Sizemore's defense is much improved, I must admit, and he's handled himself well so far at the dish. I'd be much happier, however, to see him at 3B and bring back WR...he was one of the few guys, along with Santiago, who can handle the bat, bunt, hit behind runners, etc. |

That's fair, I'm just thinking all around, maybe Sizemore is the better answer, if the organization isn't willing to have both Rhymes and Sizemore. That would just depend on how they want to move around their lineup and the best options for the infield. I think Sizemore has kind of sparked the team (along with Verlander's RIDICULOUS pitching) and has helped with their streak. |

No question as to the reasons for our latest hot run, although I'd think V-Mart has as much to do with things as anyone. Sizemore is still only hitting .263 with a 95 OPS+.
Regardless, when building a team from your available resources, I'm just saying I'd rather have Sizemore and Rhymes/Santiago in the lineup than Sizemore and Inge in the lineup, which is what we have now. This needless pandering to Darling Brandon by playing him every day is WORSE for the team. He's not producing, period, and should not be in the lineup regularly, if at all. |
