Im pulling for Tito against Chuck...But that's if Tito plays it smart and not try to stand up with chuck again. If he does what he does best and go for the take down and ground and pound Chuck, Tito got it in the bag. Hopefully Tito learned his lesson from there previous encounter, But to be fair Chuck has good take down defense and he's been on a warpath for a long time now. But I still hope Tito wins, The guy is great on the mic.
Honestly even though UFC has been trying to get Wanderlei vs Chuck for the longest time, The whole thing was politics. Graffzilla is right it was for exposure, PRIDE needs it since it's going to run it's first show in America soon. And with all the Yakuza scandals PRIDE has gone through recently and getting there T.V. deals cut they need as much exposure as they can get. Fox sports does a horrible job of presenting PRIDE to the American audience.
I think it's just a matter of time before PRIDE closes it's doors if things don't start to pick up and if they don't get a TV deal in Japan. They lost there biggest Japanese fighter and biggest draw to the events (Kazushi Sakuraba) to K-1 Hero's because of there scandals and have no more solid native fighters to represent them. Wanderlei is a big draw but not as big as Sakuraba, and PRIDE just F'd up Silva's reputation by having Mirko Cro Cop decapitate the Axe Murderer. Let alone without there TV Deal they have no sponsors and the big pay days for the fighters arn't the same no more, that's why you see alot of the top fighters going to WFA and IFL because they're the next best thing in to PRIDE in terms of money. UFC runs good fights from time to time but they don't take care of there fighters they fight for peanuts.
I would of ran the Chuck vs Wanderlei match if I was PRIDE. There's no way Chuck would of stopped Wanderlei, Chuck couldn't even hang with the big boys when Dana White leased him to PRIDE to fight in the first Middle Weight Grand Prix a couple years back and that was when Chuck was at his best in my opinion. Plus Wanderlei beating Chuck would of brought more attention to PRIDE. But you gotta think how much would they actually be willing to pay Wanderlei. I'd much rather see Wanderlei fight Tito because when Wanderlei first started out Tito owned him in the octagon.
Overall my personal opinion is UFC sucks, They make some good fights happen on occasion but no one knows who they are it's like you gotta take a chance on the pay per view. They run there organization like boxing which irritates me, but Dana White is a big time boxing mark and use to promote boxing so I guess you go with what you know. I use to like PRIDE until Sakuraba left but they make those dream fights happen, PRIDE is the wrestlemania of MMA but with money running out, there stars leaving it's lost it's appeal to alot of people. There Vegas card the fights are iffy but they're matching up the big names so it might just be out of this world. The only thing going good with PRIDE is there Bushido series. Gomi=King of the world. I'd like to see a rematch with Gomi vs Penn again. I think the outcome would definitly be different then there first encounter. |

Word up after the Penn fight he's been unstoppable with the exception of that one fight recently. Other then that he's still a monster in the light weight division and i don't see him losing the PRIDE lightweight title for a long time.

still see chuck smashing tito the next time around. someone needs to set up rampage/chuck II.
gomi's a bad ass against other strikers, but when it comes to superior ground technicians he has trouble, so no, the outcome of a penn/gomi II wouldnt be any different.
read a rumor that hughes sustained another injury and that it could postpone his next defense agasint GSP (st. pierre yall) can anyone confirm this horrible rumor/fact?!?! The only time i'll ever go for hughes is when he fights frank trigg. GSP ALL THE WAY!!!!!!
Island heads, dont forget bout your Maui boy Kendall Grove. By the looks of this past tues. night his stand up game appeared much much sharper, even though it was limited since the fight hit the ground so fast, his hand speed and timing def. improved. He's tough as shit on the ground and you know his cardio is through the roof, since he's training with fat head up @ big bear. rory singer next and then a couple more, then he'll be ready for A.Silva for that title. hehe.
really cant hate on the ufc or pride, i mean they're dishing out free shows here and there. i know the ppv prices have been on the rise, but cmon yall, at LEAST 5 bouts over a 3 hour span is def. worth the $40. not every show is a winner, and not every show is gonna have your all star line up, but hey that's the chance you take when ordering it, dont you think the ceo's up at pride and ufc aint nervous as fuck until the shows over.
as far as the "no-names" on the bigger stages, so what, let's see what these guys are all about. look at this guy Joe Lauzon, no one in that house knew who this guy was, but what does he do??? he crushes the ufc's ex lightweight champ Jens Pulver in under a minute.
to hell with it, im just ranting away, anyways just remember long live MMA!! Not everybody's gonna be satisfied but we still watch. |
