I can see right off the bat they spelled Noreaga, Dove Shack (two words), and Ghostface Killa wrong, though.

Actually, the first issue was in '89-'90 and it was newsprint. Totally indie-style, out of L.A. All hip-hop. They had stuff about Native Tongues in there, if I remember correctly.
Then they went electronic in sometime the mid-'90s.
Now they're hip-hop again?!?! |

heres a partial (physical) evolution of URB. the mag on the right is just there for scale. note the huge one in the middle, its issue 14 (theyre on around 154 today, i believe) but yea, my OG URBS are mainly electronica with a dash of hiphop circa '91.

I can't believe you kept all those back issues!
I had some crazy Spin magazines lying around from the late '80s with info on the "Cameo cut" craze, dukey ropes and reviews of Eric B. & Rakim's first 12' - just some wild "Golden era" shit - that I threw away last year. I'm still regretting that. |
