There are dozens of cool bands with daft names and we never bat an eyelid about the daftness of their name because it just seems to go with the music and image but when you really really think about it there are some really weird band names out there. some paint the picture of what the music is all about superbly well and they obviously sound like the name suggests like say um, Venom or Motorhead or Black Sabbath but recently I've had a few cd's who's band name has made me check twice to make sure their really called what I think it said on the cover. so what is a good name and what is a bad name.
here goes-
Good Names - motley Crue, the damned, the stranglers, the dogs d'amour, the gunslingers, the wildhearts.
bad name - pearl jam, hot chocolate, helloween, swell maps, pavement, the jam. about 3/4 of the bands on the line up of HRHiv
right theres a few off the bat I'm sure there are worse and there are some that just suit the bands style lets try and keep it to bands most of us might have actually have heard of ;-)

I'll use the Ghost of a Thousand as a great example of this Don...
The name crys out Screamo fringe boys but infact they sound a lot like International Noise Consipracy meets The Bronx...Quality!!!!
Oh and they dress like some of the Posties I once worked with going on the piss circa say 1985...Nice threads, mullets and tashes.

Blodwyn Pig was a band name that infuriated me,although they were quite good in a bluesy Jethro Tullish way

I remember reading about a band back in Kerrang! many years ago called the Goat Mother-fucking Virgin Killers From Hell(I may have dreamt it tho!)That has quite a ring to it eh!

As cool as they were I always thought the name Jerusalem Slim was a weird one, what's that all about?
