Posted December 19th, 2004 02:19 PM IP This is taken from the NWP Cafe', if you didn't notice. I thought we could post trailers of upcoming stories here. Here's one I've been working on:
A country at war...
The full moon shone brightly through the window. A lieutenant sitting in a chair near the glass was staring outside. "The moonlight's glimmering so beautifully this evening. I think tonight shall be the night. They always ruin the most beautiful nights," he said.
A general sitting at a nearby table looking over some papers looked over. "Indeed they do," he sighed. "Indeed they do."
A man who has lost everything he had and is now forced to wander...
A man sat at a cliffside overlooking the ocean below. "Today was certainly a bad day for me. Oh well... all good things come to an end. Who knows... this might be just what I needed..."
And a "lunatic"...
The sanitarium stood there on the hill in a menacing fashion. A figure was seen running out of the building and into the nearby forest. He just kept running until he had lost the staff of the asylum for the time being. At that point, he sat down near a tree, and began to rest. "This world is more corrupt than ever. When they think they can solve all their problems by locking up those who they deem a threat to the country and labeling them as 'crazy,' it is a time to fear. I need to get out of here, somehow. Yet if I try to leave normally, they'll catch me. I'll leave this bloody island somehow, though, even if I have to use a rowboat!"
They'll each fight their own struggles...
"You've already taken everything precious from me! What more could you possibly want!?"
"Your life."
They'll each have their own story to tell...
"You don't know what I've been through, lieutenant..."
"No, but you've still gotta go out there, general!"
"I can't... Lieutenant... I'm going AWOL."
And they'll each be forced into each other's lives...
"Who are you?"
"Just someone who has been down on their luck these past few weeks..."

Posted December 19th, 2004 11:46 PM IP Ah yes...story trailers. Looking foward to your story, Ludwiggy. Nice trailer.
Here's a trailer of my own about a story that I've been formulating in my mind for some time now involving Ridgent.
*~*~*
What is insanity?
Each patient stood in the monotonous line, holding out bowls and waiting for the watery soup to be poured into them. Of course, these were the calm patients. The more violent patients of the asylum were kept in solitary confinement.
Some call it a disorder...
The Koopa gargled violently, clutching what he thought was an enemy in his scarred hands, when in fact he was merely clutching air. Two asylum staff members watched sadly as the Koopa writhed in agony, persistently trying to defeat his "enemy."
"What happened to him?" One of the asylum staff members asked the other.
"An attack caused him to go insane."
"Who attacked him?"
"...Jeremiah Blackshell."
Some call it a disability...
"Sirs, please gives me some foods!" The Toad shrieked, pounding on the walls that kept him in confinement. "Pleases! I begs of you!"
"We've already fed you five minutes ago," A guard said to him. "You'll be fine."
"NO! I'll nevers be finesss..." The Toad hissed. "Not when I'm in heres...the wallsss...they traps me, they does!"
The Ridgentian Asylum is where the insane and unsound citizens of Ridgent go for the protection of others and themselves.
"We'll kill them, won't we, Donald?" The Para Troopa cackled to himself. "They'll all be sorry. They'll all be dead. DEAD! DEAD! DEAD!"
The Para Troopa pounded the padded floor with a horrible fury.
"We won't forgive them, will we, Donald? They'll beg for mercy, but no...we won't spare any of them. Heh...eventually, Donald. Eventually we will have our REVENGE!"
Many different patients live in the Asylum...a confused former colonel, a silent Goomba, a Para Troopa with a split personality, a wild Toad, a Piranha Plant who is perfectly normal during the morning but terrifyingly destructive at night...and many others...
"Why did you decide to work here, Jack?" His companion said to him.
"Because," Jack replied. "I want to help these people."
"But the risks," His companion continued. "Half the people in this asylum want to kill you."
"I know," Jack said. "But it's a risk I'm willing to take."
But one of them...
"You shall refer to me as Colonel!" The Koopa bellowed, kicking the bowl away from the patient cook.
"Oh yes, I'm sorry, Colonel," The cook stuttered. "Please eat up now."
"There you go," The Colonel said, obviously satisfied. "I just want some respect around here. After all, I am a Colonel!"
"Of course, Colonel..."
Is not insane....but merely pretending...
"You'll have to put the straitjacket on me now," The Piranha Plant reminded his doctor. "The moon is almost up."
"I'll do so right away."
"Please hurry!" The Piranha Plant pleaded. "I can feel it starting!"
And is planning to release all of the patients...and cause mass chaos...
"Doctor, what's wrong?!" Jack shouted to the doctor, who was standing with a stunned expression on his face.
"Donald isn't in his cell."
Jack's expression turned to one of horror.
To some of the patients...insanity is not a disorder...it's a way of life.

I thought Ridgent wouldn't care, and its asylums would be like those in the 1700s, which were made out of solid rock or concrete or something, but I guess I was wrong. It'd be interesting if you did a little research into insanity for this story. Studying such things is sort of a hobby of mine, so I could give you some good links. Anyhow, I'll be sure to read it!

Posted December 20th, 2004 01:02 PM IP I've done a little research on asylums and insanity, but I could sure use some links.
Studying subject matter is a habit of mine when I am planning a fic. I read a lot of biographies and books about infamous gangsters and gangs before I wrote Like Family to Me.
So yes, some links would be very helpful.
Next Trailer: The Anuronian Chronicles, a Zelda fic planned by yours truly.

Posted December 21st, 2004 09:20 PM IP This is the prologue for an upcoming Zelda fic by me entitled The Anuronian Chronicles. Enjoy. I guess. It was originally at the NWP Cafe in my Story Thread, but in case you didn't read it...here it is.
¡°Scholars have always dwelled on the idea of monsters living in a civilized world where monsters and Hylians can live in peace and harmony. This, of course, is a ridiculous proposition because there are no monsters on this planet with the intelligence of Hylians or humans. The idea has been dismissed. However, another idea has been brought up about monsters living in their own civilized societies. This idea has also been dismissed due to the fact that monsters do not have the intelligence to live in peace. Monsters will always be vicious creatures and that is that.¡±
~Anonymous Hylian Scholar of the Dark Period
For centuries, the Hylians and humans of Hyrule never bothered to explore the lands to the east. It had never occurred to them that intelligent races could live in the deadly climate and rugged landscape. They were wrong.
Hundreds of intelligent creatures lived in the land the Hylians called the ¡°Forsaken Land.¡± Adapting to their environment, the creatures made habitats and soon formed colonies.
The Hylians would be surprised at the intelligence and determination of the creatures that lived in the Forsaken Land. They would be even more surprised at what kind of creatures they were. For in the Forsaken Land, there were no Hylians or humans. There were only ¡°monsters.¡± Skulltullas, Dodongos, Gohmas, Keese, Leevers, and other monsters lived in their own societies and never gave the Hylians trouble.
These monsters were no ordinary monsters. Unlike the mindless Hylian monsters, these monsters were quite intelligent if not more intelligent than the average Hylian. However, a barrier blocked them from ever conversing with the Hylians. The monsters had formed their own language known to them as An-uh. An-uh was comprised of different screeches and growls which could be blended together to create what we know as vowels and consonants.
The monsters or Anuronians lived in the ¡°Forsaken Land,¡± known to them as Anuronia. The Anuronians did not bother the Hylians. After all, if an Anuronian tried to communicate with a Hylian, the Hylian would mistake the Anuronian¡¯s growling and screeching as hostility and perhaps even slay the Anuronian.
So the Anuronians kept their existence secret from the Hylians. Instead, they allowed their complex societies to grow, creating new traditions, customs, and cities.
But one fateful day, the harmony of the Anuronians would cease. For in Hyrule, a new king came to power. A greedy king who wanted more land. This king was King Sieroket. His greed would bring tragedy to Hyrule and Anuronia.
And in Anuronia, there lurked a horrible being. All Anuronians feared his name and never spoke it out loud unless absolutely necessary. That name was Drinoeris, the Lord of Destruction. No one knew what Drinoeris was. Some said he was a giant dragon with terrible powers. Others disagreed and said he was a demon of hellish origins.
Whatever the rumors said, Drinoeris never showed his true form. His followers feared him with all their hearts and could only talk to him via a large sphere of crystal. Demonic red eyes would peer upon the pitiful creatures through the sphere as they bowed down to his fearsome glory.
Our story does not start with us meeting the foolish King Sieroket. Nor does it start by having you meet Drinoeris. Instead, our story begins with eight young Anuronians. The eight Anuronians did not know each other and were not aware of the important roles they would play in the story. Each Anuronian was different in appearance and personality: a Tektite, a Cucco, a Dodongo, a Gohma, a Keese, a Leever, an Octorok, and a Skulltulla. Their stories will intertwine into one large tale of bravery, heroism, grief, and death.

Posted December 22nd, 2004 12:09 AM IP There are two different types of "unintelligible creatures" in my story.
The Hylian type of, let's say, a Tektite, would be a mindless monster. An Anuronian type of a Tektite would be intelligent, perhaps even more intelligent than a Hylian.
The Anuronians are not a race themselves. They are a number of different creatures that have joined together to call themselves the Anuronians in order to distinguish themselves from mindless monsters.

There are three ways of dealing with time travel in Doctor Who (you might want to print this out for future use.)
1. Look, it's just a story, time travel is completely impossible, the whole thing's a farrago of lies, ooh, look at those monsters.
2. Time can only sometimes be rewritten, and the Doctor has a vast and terrible Time Brain that allows him to see when events can be altered and when they are fixed, but for us mere mortals, such insight would turn our brains to soup, ooh, look at those monsters.
3. Ooh, look at those monsters!

*The camera zooms up to a hospital, surorunded by massive mushrooms*
*We pass a sign with UT written on it. There is a koopa standing outside the door with a guards uniform on.*
Guard: Welcome to UT Hospital! We hope you enjoy your stay!
*The Camera goes in the door, and down packed corridors to a single room. Inside is a poorly Goomba and Some koopas in Doctor's uniforms.*
Doctor: Well, it seems that you'll be fine in 2 weeks. Just get some rest.
Goomba: Oh, thank you Doctor Kevin. *The Doctor walks out. There are two goomba parents outside.*
Goomba Mum: Will he be alright?
Doctor Kevin: He'll be fine. He just needs rest.
*The Camera follows Doctor Kevin through the corridors, to the cantine. He sits down.*
Other Koopa: How are you, Kev?
Dr. K: Fine, but I need to eat. Now.
Other Koopa: Well, I'll let you into a secret... the janitor put a toilet in.
Dr. K: So?
Other Koopa: It's on the roof.
Dr. K: You can never know what's going to happen in this place, can you.

I came up with the idea of a Mushroom Hospital drama after all the hospital TV shows. It should have the same sort of random comedy that FSM Has.

Posted November 10th, 2005 05:03 PM IP Well, here's the story I plan to submit to this site once I get past the dreaded writer's block, but before I initiate the trailer, there are two things that need to be said. 1: This is not the prequel to Bloodliner (that'll come later), and 2: I apologize for any similarities this may contain to ProZD's "Like Family to Me". This is no way meant to rip off of that great story, and I believe the only real similarity the two hold is a crime city scenario. The characters, the city, and the plot are entirely different. Just wanted to clear that up so people don't think I'm trying to rip-off "Like Family to Me". Anyway, here's the trailer...
~
The following story has been rated PG-13 for Extreme Violence, Mild Language, and Gambling.
~
To many, Mushroom City is no different from any other city in the world...people going to and fro, the streets and sidewalks completely filled to the point where nobody really was moving at a fast pace....sure, it held its fair share of gangsters, criminals, and illegal operations, but what city didn't have those elements...?
"...And I better not see yer ass in this joint again, ya hear me, or you'll be seein' shards of glass lodged in that worthless face of yers!" The low, gruff voice shouted out from within the tavern as a Koopa flew through the air, landing with a loud thud on the ground in front of the tavern entrance. He quickly got his feet, cringing as he became all too aware that the fall had netted him a scraped left knee and a bruise on his nose. He turned back towards the door just in time to see the Goomba bartender slam the door shut, pistol in his invisible hand just in case the Koopa tried to run back in. The Koopa made no such move.
"You thinkin' the whole world revolves around your joint bein' perfect, is that it? Well ya better stop thinkin' that way, cuz as soon as they hear ya kicked somebody out fer spillin' some beer on the floor, you'll be sorry...you'll be sorry."
Not expecting any response (and no response came, coincidentally), the Koopa let out a disgusted snort and turned around, limping away from the bar as he tried to push his mind away from the pain in his nose and left knee and onto other matters. He had been kicked out of a tavern with the most uptight bartender ever imagineable...and he still needed a drink.
The Koopa rubbed his throat, his thirst for beer growing bigger and bigger, his mind now completely occupied on how much he needed that one bottle of booze...and then he saw it.
But what if you found out that this one city held something few other cities possessed...
"Just today, another body was found, this one not too far away from the downtown region. Nailed to the side of an overturned truck, with 'playing cards' lodged in his body, keeping him pinned down by the wrists, the ankles, and neck...officials raced to the location upon hearing of an explosion in the area...there is little structural damage in the surrounding area, and the truck was not the source of the explosion, nor does it carry any hazardous material...but signs of an explosion are already eminent with signs of ash and lingering flames...we suggest all in the area to be cautious of criminal activity..."
...what if you found out that something big was brewing...not only threatening what amount of safety the city has, but the safety of the entire world...
Officer Drayl sat at his desk, head in his hands as he let out a huge sigh. As soon as his hands moved away from his head, he grabbed a large pile of papers and documents he had obtained just that morning and briefly glanced at each individual paper, taking note of any piece of information that stood out. Raxo wasn't kidding when he said this was the biggest case the city had ever seen....well, the city's officials, at the moment. The rest of the city, which included the public and the reporters, wouldn't get the meat of things until the officials were entirely sure, if they'd ever be sure, of what the hell was going on.
...what if you found that your own life was in danger, and that the more you know the smaller your chance of living gets...
"HELP ME!" Crav screamed out, scurrying through the maze-like hallways as his face grew more pale by the second. He tossed his handgun to the side, having no more use for it with no more ammo left, and using any opportunity he could come upon to lighten his load. "HELP ME, DAMMIT! THEY'RE COMIN' FOR ME! ALL OF 'EM! THEY'RE GONNA GET ME, AND ONCE THEY GET ME, THEY'RE GONNA GET YOU! THEY'RE---"
Crav came to a dead end, and all the color that was left in his face was now gone. The Yoshi gangster now reduced to whimpering, he tried to open the door right besides him....no luck. The lock was broken. It was as if his arrival had been anticipated, and they had made sure to cut off any escape route he could take. Crav now backed up against the wall, his entire body now drenched in sweat. The footsteps were getting louder, louder, louder...good lord, they were coming right towards where Crav now stood. The footsteps grew louder, as did Crav's pathetic whimpering, until the figure appeared in the distance, sniper rifle in hand...
Are you willing to open up to others and warn them of the impending dangers?
"They're smart gangstas...they know their way around this city as if it was their own mind...they give people a good scarin', and make them wonder when they're gonna attack next when the real thing the people should be worried about is themselves...the demons within our souls prove to be the greatest danger to the soul they reside in..." The Goomba said with a big grin plastered on his face, the sort that just screams out "Kill me, I'm a bonafide ass"
"And what do the demons within us plan to do, may I ask?" Detective Avel said, growing more and more uncomfortable each time his nervous glance came upon his latest client.
"Make us go back to the way we were back when we were nothin' more than unintelligent, barbaric beasts. Make us murderous, kill for ourselves and nothin' more..."
will you hide? Or maybe, just maybe. you'll make a stand for yourself, to bring about the end of this threat before it even begins...
"Honey, you can't go out there! You're going to get killed in no time!" Alicia cried out, trying to get her husband to change his mind. No such thing would happen, though, and Getz simply continued his task of loading his magnum.
"Sorry Alicia....I can't let that guy and his gangsta buddies go walkin' around there like he's 'Psycho the Golden-Masked Assassin' with his pseudo pals. If I don't do somethin' now, there's nothin' I can do in the future..."
Regardless of what you choose...prepare yourself.
"Okay, you no-good scumbags...let's dance!"

Posted November 11th, 2005 12:27 AM IP So it's not Bloodliner in the least? Either way, the trailer's awesome!
I have seen anguish. People have cursed me and wished death among other things to me as I scarred the world and those who inhabit it. I myself have known a greater misery simply committing those acts. Pain and a holy purpose were all that were in my life. But as great as my pain was, the one I now sense puts mine to shame. I can sense a bitter struggle between morals and an inescapable drive to do those very acts that violate the morals. Tis a poor soul before me but I can sense the good in him. There is a life worthy of rescuing somewhere in his wicked hide that I must reach. His pain and mine shall be great as the trials before us approach but hopefully I can find a way to save this life and that of the world before it is too late.
