Posted 11-20-08 04:51 PM IP The parents, grandparents and supporters of the Ponce De Leon Peewee football team
Needs your help. We have put petitions out in all the business's in PDL, Westville, Caryville & Bonifay.
We need everyone that cares about our PDL kids to stop at one of the business's and sign the petitions.
The middle school team has gone undefeated this season ... These kids have played their hearts out.
A couple of the kids can't play after this year because at age 13 you can no longer play ..
To do so they will have to leave PDL and relocate to a school that has a football Team .. How sad ..
There are many children missing out on opportunities in PDL due to the lack of this sport at our school.
If Vernon as small as it is .. Can have a football team for their kids.. Why can't PDL have one for these kids.
If we all pull together .. Somebody will have to listen to our request ... Our kids deserve this opportunity.

Posted 11-28-08 09:34 PM IP Baroness, I believe you live in Ponce De Leon .. Are at least I think you do. What's your feelings on people that live in Ponce De Leon coming together as sponsors to help with getting a football field in PDL so the middle school and the high school could have a football team ... The older peewee players that played undefeated this year .. ( outside this past Sat. They lost their super bowl game to Bonifay by two points ) can't play anymore ..Its over for them .. And to me this is sad ... Mr. William Tidwell has been trying for the past five years to make this happen .. To no prevail. These little guys deserve a chance to have a football team and play throughout their high school years and maybe move on to college and play through a scholarship
I have seen a lot of good talent in these boys to just fade out now that they're too old to play with the peewee league. Are no longer allowed to play unless they leave PDL high school .. And re-locate to another one that has a football team. Mr. Galloway has already told Mr. Tidwell the school board can't help .. Because he was left taking over his new position being 2.something million dollars in the red.
Shane Alford coached this older peewee team this year and did an outstanding job with these little guys. Does anybody have any ideals or suggestions ... The parents and other supporters to these kids .. And not just these kids .. To the ones that have already lost out on playing anymore and the younger ones coming behind these boys. We are open to anybody's help or suggestions. We are hoping to establish a non-profit org. To support the team (s) and are desperately in search of sponsors.

Posted 11-29-08 05:36 PM IP Start a middle school program next school year, it will be a little disorganized and may look like a joke, but put some uniforms on them and schedule some games. Play your homes games at the football field in Bonifay.
1. Volunteer coach
2. check with big schools about donating old uniforms and equipment.
3. Don't take NO for an answer. "Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend's forehead."

Posted 12-04-08 10:55 PM IP Bethlehem and Poplar Springs do not have football fields either. None of the rural schools have ever had football or bands. How sad that so much preference is shown to Holmes County High. I am glad they have those programs but shouldn't the rural schools get something also. Let's get moving Holmes County!

Posted 12-05-08 10:40 AM IP Thank you Baroness for your post .. Holmes mania has a very good point that we will check into ... I know getting this off the ground and making it happen has to be very expensive .... That's the reason we need everybody's help and ideas .... Pink Lady you are absolutely right .. Bethlehem and Poplar Springs do not have football fields either ... If its not possible to get a football field for each of these schools ... Maybe we could all pull together .. I'm talking all three rural schools ... Find a place or maybe someone would let us use or maybe even donate a piece of land big enough for a football field and parking ... That could accommodate all three schools ... Holmes mania suggested us using Bonifays football field ... That would be great .. But I'm not sure they would let us do that .. Because they would feel we where interfering with their football games. It is sad that so much preference is shown to Holmes County High .. I'm with you Pink Lady I'm glad these kids have all these programs ... But theres three more schools in Holmes County too. It wouldn't hurt to accommodate these kids too. Their just as important & deserving as the kids that go to HCH. But again I don't think we can expect a lot of help from the Holmes County School Board ... I think this will take a lot of people from all three areas Ponce De Leon, Bethlehem and Poplar Springs getting together and setting up a quarter back club or some type Non - profit organization ... Get donations, fund raisers grant writting going ... I can't do this by myself nor can any one person from Bethlehem and Poplar Springs do it alone ... We all have to meet someplace and put our heads together and see if we can make this happen for these kids .. I'm not a leader .. I'm a follower but I will certainly help full force. So any suggestions or leaders will be welcomed. Someone who knows how to take this and run with it that knows how to do all the Legal Technicalities and the right people to talk to would be wonderful.

Posted 12-06-08 02:54 PM IP jojojo .... You have to be a pathetic 365 day out of the year miserable old Grinch ... Why don't you grow up and get a life and see how real people live ... We are talking about kids here ... That deserve a chance to have a football team ... So they can play football on through their high school years .. Maybe even get a scholarship to go to college ... That other wise might not get the chance to go.
I can see why Baroness don't like you and apparently a lot of the other blogers . Your just plain miserable .. And I agree with HolmesMania.

Posted 12-06-08 08:54 PM IP Your right I don't have any Idea how much it cost .. And I'm sure its astronomical .... That's why we need sponsors , Grant writers, fund raiser ... But most of all we need somebody with a good since of leadership that knows how to make this happen ...that knows how to do all the Legal Technicalities & financial planning ...
Look at Vernon .. A very small town with a very small school but they have a football field ... Its not a big fancy one .. But they got one. And the school board didn't get it for them either ...Enough people worked & pulled together to make it happen ... To be honest with you .. Its really not all about the cost & yet it is.. Its also about one other thing ... The other big thing ... Is getting people to commit their time to work and pull together ... If this would happen .. I believe the money would come .. It might come slowly ... But I believe it would come.... Vernon did it .... If one or a few people could get this done .. It would already be a done deal .. But that's not the way it works ..
HolmesMania has some good Ideas and sugestions that will be checked out. I just wish their was someone out there that knew how to take this ball and run with it. I know a few people that would run all the way with them. Remember jojojo ...this is all about our rural area school kids ... whos as deserving as the kids that go to HCHS are.. Its not fair to them just because they live in a rural area & go to a smaller school .. And its not fair that they have to leave their home schools to go to another School to be able to play ball ... these kids can't fight for this .. If they could, they would ... Its up to us to fight for them.

Posted 12-06-08 09:49 PM IP Memorial Field is the property of the youth of Holmes County, according to the deed. It is not the property of the Kiwanis Club, the School System or the quarterback club. Bay County has schools sharing Tommy Oliver Stadium. ... they have for years. Posted 12-06-08 10:22 PM IP Grit, there are only two high schools in Washington county. There are 4 in HC. There will not be funds to put a field in these schools. Grants won't get it and neither will sponsors. Also, I doubt the schools have enough players.

Posted 12-07-08 02:54 PM IP Thank you Holmes Mania and Pink Lady .. I'm trying desperately to find someone that's good with making things happen to team up with me. That knows a lot more about this than I do .. I know little to nothing about making this happen ... I have Grandsons on both peewee teams PDL & BHS and I have just recently found out Mr. Tidwell has been trying for five years to get these schools a ball field are someplace ... so they could have their on football team ..But he has given up ... Because Mr.Galloway told him the school board can't do anything because hes going into office with 2. Something in the red. So I'm looking for somebody that does know how to get this going .. I mean we can't just give up because Mr. Galloway says no. Who ever I find .. I will work right with them and so will a lot of other parents & Grandmothers .. We just need somebody that knows how. I would have worked my butt off with Mr.Tidwell .. And that was my plans along with a lot of Moms and G-mothers and Dads .. But he gave up .. I need someone who knows the system and how it works .. They also have to be a fighter. Holmes Mania you interested ?
I didn't know a lot of this until Holmes Mania posted his comments .. He has been very helpful.

I pray you keep on with it until something happens.
Don't let evil or rude people get in the way with their comments.
It shows you just how much hate people hold in their heart.
Just keep your eyes on God with all you do and don't let anyone tell you it can't be done.. With man we may not have a chance but with God i know we can do all things.
I do pray that all people on here even JOJOJO have a blessed day in the Lord and not forget to smile
Gritneygirl you and the rest on here keep on being one voice for the kids. I know God is in it God bless each one.

-New post-
hello all,
i am writing on behalf of the bethlehem pee wee football association. my husband and i have been volunteering our time for the past 4 years. dwayne is the president of the association and i am treasurer/secretary. our association runs strictly off of fundraisers and donations. we are not supported by the school. we carry the name, but only because this is our community. we use the baseball field at the school for practice and we get a page in the yearbook, but we do have to purchase that and take and provide our own pictures.
i just think that we are the little community that is not recognized, but i know we are not the only community that feels that way. in the past, we have had kids from pdl & poplar springs in our program because they do not have proper funding either. i think we should get some sort of recognition from the holmes county school board and i know they say they are on a budget, but so are we & we are bringing up future athletes. our association teaches these kids good sportsmanship and the importance of academics. some of these kids will go on to play football after they reach the age limit and that means that most likely they will be either in bonifay, chipley, or geneva. but without this program, some may not ever go on to compete in sports.
i beleive that we play a vital role in these kids' future. without this program, there is nothing to offer this age group. there is middle school basketball (and some play this as well), but you have to be in middle school to play. our kids are ages 5-13 and for some, this is all they have.
we need more donations and more support. our program needs all the help it can get.
thank you for your time and if there are any questions, suggesstions, or if you just want to help, please contact me. my email address is listed in my profile.
thanks again,
julie white
